The 18s will be picked from the NDCs while the 22s (40 of them) are invited. The 22s then get pared down after the Women's Festival in Lake Placid.

Thank you for the information. Do you also know who selected the 40 to attend the tryout? Committee or coaches choice?

A committee of coaches, advisors, and Michele Amidon.

I'm not sure if the 18s are picked from the NDCs as a straight team, or if they will follow the way it is done with the 22s and have a larger group and then pare down.

Were they already notified if they made the U22 tryout?

Lol, I've been trying to find that out all day.

A lot of young ladies out there wondering the same thing. It would be nice for them to know one way or the other. Thanks for looking into it.

The Women's Festival in Lake Placid will consist of the U18 team, the U22 team, and the Over 22 "team". The U18 team will be picked as a straight team. Because of staffing and space/time issues, the U22 team will consist of 25 players and be trimmed, rather than the 40 they had last year. The O22s will be another 20 or so players and will practice and play with the 22s.

The makeup of the O/U22s hasn't been decided yet.

The players attending will be notified in early July.

No, and like a dope, I went to LP and on more than one occasion forgot to ask. As my grandmother liked to say "Boy, you'd forget your head if it didn't come attached!"

Has the U18 team been selected or are they waiting until after the 16 and 15 select camps are over?

they are def waiting for the u16 camp to end but probably not the u15 one as it ends in the very end of july so that wouldn't give people alot of notice for the camp closely following

The 22's have definately been notified, there is a list of kids who made it.

Public announcement could come as soon as mid-week next week.

I was told that they would be evaluating players from the 15 camp as well, so it wouldn't surprise me if the announcement was made after the completion of the St. Cloud camp.

some of the best u18 players aren't/weren't at the national camps this year. Will they be looked at for a spot or passed by? Don't know the reasons for the absences, but it would be a shame to have some of the best talent passed over.

out of curiosity, what u18 players were missing that you believe should be considered?

the kids are missing for a variety of reasons. one didn't participate in in-state tryouts and couldnt' get a bye out of the central region or nationals. Although considering her talent, I can't understand to whom they gave their at-large positions. the second, a defenseman, is off playing for team USA in soccer. Another's parents didn't want to spend the $$$ for state and regional tryouts.

My real question was whether the team was being picked from the camps or from scouting that has taken place over past seasons and past camps. I guess if the point is to put the best team on the ice, the powers that be will figure it out.

Interesting dilemma, isn't?

I thought the statement was that the teams were going to be picked "from" these camps. If this is indeed what will happen I would be OK with the approach when viewing the big picture.

You can argue that not "all" of the best players would be on this years team. But, you can also argue that this is the approach that USA Hockey is following. (ie. centralized evaluation and training). If this is so, I again would be OK just taking kids from the camps. This is one of the few times I would agree with USA Hockey's approach to development. In the future, you can be sure others will think twice before not going to these camps regardless of the reasons.
