Sorta tempted to drive up there for the U22 series, although it's a bit of a haul (7 hours, not including the border checkpoints)

Some of the best players also choose to stay close to home and play so that they can see their families. If you live in the west you do have a few more choices but you also have some good choices if you live in the east.
With the cost of flying doubling in price and the gas prices the way they are I would think many players would choose to stay close to home. Scholarship or not, just to drive to a weekend series 2-3 hours from home would cost $100.00 in gas (that is in an average car) $200.00 if you are commuting for both weekend games. Add in hotel (commuting to both is not a savings anymore) and we are talking as much as $300.00 not including food. Flying and hotels would be double that.
For players who don't care wether their parents are there or not (you don't find this too much in hockey) then the decision won't matter.
But, I do think you will see more players sticking closer to home and choosing their schools so as not to put a travel hardship on their families. I know I couldn't spend $300.00 a weekend in travel considering my heating bill this winter will be triple the amount it was 3 years ago. :( and my salary hasn't changed much.

Having been 18 once, I highly doubt many kids are going to be worrying what their folks might have to shell out to come see them play. ;)

I don't think gas costs play as much as a factor as you're saying.

A couple stupid questions . . . usahockey.com has the schedule for the U-22 series v. Canada as Aug 20 at 7pm, Aug 22 at 7pm, and Aug 23 at 9:30pm. Any idea which time zone they're giving the times in? Also, anyone know if there will be any live streaming?
Thanks for the info. :)
If they follow past practice, the games for the 22s will be in Ottawa, which is EST. (18s are in Lake Placid this year)

As per the USA Hockey website, the U22 series will be held in the Montreal Quebec area. This is in the Eastern time zone. Not sure yet about the live streaming but Hockey Canada typically arranges for this on their website.

PierreFonds is on the North Western Edge of Montreal's West Island, about 15 minutes from downtown, and easy access from the Airport. They have a 4 pad facility there with an olympic size main arena that seats about 1500-2000 (my guess), a Bar overlooking the main pad and a concourse with the usual arena fare. Rink is on PierreFonds avenue, just west of the intersection with St-Jean.

Actually, EDT this time of year. :)
Speaking of U18, the roster for the final TC U18 selection camp is being formally released tomorrow although all attendees have been advised. Stephanie White was announced today as U18 head coach.
At what stage is USA U18 selection process at?

Nitpicker. :p
At what stage is USA U18 selection process at?
Ongoing, with the roster not announced until after the 15 & 16 camp. So I would say the Monday or Tuesday after, or August 3rd or 4th.
Just over a week until the Women's National Festival starts in Lake Placid. I would expect we will see the U18 Selects roster announced any time now. To date some 12 players or so from the U17 camp have been invited, leaving roughly 13 spots to be filled.

broken links...."Sorry, an unexpected error has occurred."
EDIT: appears to be a USAHockey issue as the pages are also not accessible directly from their website.....
Double Edit: Jeez, you think that they would make room for these announcements on the home page....I had to go digging in the national team pages to find the roster links... GET WITH IT USAHOCKEY!
