as a newer person to women's hockey, I was wondering how the teams are picked. Is there a draft that attempts to make the teams even? If so are the numbers on the roster the indication of how the players are. I know in boys HNIB years ago the at-large team numbers indicated a draft order. # 2 was the high draft through 10 the lowest.

In the NAHA showcase, the girls are just assigned numbers to even out the teams, The numbers have no other significance than a number on the back of a jersey. (there are "DI" skilled players with single digit numbers and then there are "DI" skilled players with double digit numbers on their jersey) There is no specific reason why any girl is given a particular number.

There is no draft in the showcase, the organizers are familiar with the skill of all of the players and randomly assigns them to teams to insure that there is a good balance on every team.

Hope that helps clear things up.
