NAHA White and Shattuck are reported to be amongst the inaugural teams for this new showcase league. Another portion is supposed to be made up of Canadian teams.

Does anyone have any additional info about it?

not sure about any of those teams, so it is best to wait until the news is released on the NAHA site. The only US team that is in for sure is NAHA. Other than them, any other team listed is speculation at best..

there are a few details to work out before the rest of the teams are named. Some of the teams on your list may not be in the league when it is all said and done.

Will the new league be structured to culminate in a playoff series and North American Championship?

The info I had said "no" as it was strictly a "showcase" league/circuit.

The closest surrogate to a NA championship that currently exists is the Stoney Creek University showcase tourney run in September. All the teams from Ontario's PWHL compete, as well as several other top teams from the US and other parts of Canada. At last count 27 teams have already registered for the next one.

This is a league, with league games, play offs, and a championship. It is not a showcase. There are other aspects of this new league that will be disclosed once all of the details are finalized.

Keep watching the NAHA site for the latest, most accurate information.

I did not mean to offend. I was simply clarifying the information.

Like I said, it will be a league with play offs and a championship. All of the teams that have previously been listed on this thread, may or may not be included in the league The teams are still being finalized as are other details that relate to the league. I am not at liberty to disclose any information beyond what has already been posted. Again the best place to get the most current info will be on the NAHA site. They will post info as it is finalized.

I know this is not much info to go on, but I assure you, as soon as the information is finalized it will be made available.

No offense taken. You apparently have access to more info than most others on the forum at this point. I'll keep an eye on the NAHA link.

That being said, how will this affect the MWEHL - not only the teams, but the exposure value?

The question would be, is there any interest in the Polar Bears joining this league given that the majority of their players go to the preps.

It would be a AA league, since all the AAA teams would leave to join the NEW league, I would imagine.

I don't imagine that much would change in the MWEHL, since Shattuck and NAHA already do not participate in the league. Belle Tire did not play in the league last year either and the league still drew scouts and offered exposure.

The WJHL will be a more competitive league than the MWEHL, that is for sure. Again, there is only one team officially announced as a member of the league and that is NAHA. The rest of the teams will be announced as soon as the details are finalized as well as the structure and format.

Yeah, you're right about that. I forgot that the top 3 teams had already left the league, except for the Illinois team and the Minnesota team.

I had another thought:

So if the league was structured so that there would be an overall North American champion team (Canadian or American) AND...since there is no Women's NHL... wouldn't the following idea make sense?

An American division Championship series which would be between the two American teams with the best record in this new league....we would not need the USA Hockey U19 Elite level National Tournament, since the TRUE USA Top teams would have had to face ONLY TOP competition in this new league to earn the title. And we would finally have a fair, legitimate and valid National Tournament with a champion team who really earned the title.

Oh please.

You are talking youth hockey, and "junior" hockey, which is two different things. (see the difference between Midget and Junior and Intermediate designations in Candian women's hockey for example)

I always understood that Midget hockey in Canada for the girls, was for U17 and Intermediate was for U20 girls (which includes some top U17 players)

I also understood that the Intermediate level played in the Junior league and the midgets played in the midget league.

If this is correct, this is not the same as the difference between the MWEHL and the new WJHL, since both leagues are for the 19U teams and the difference is the level of competition.

To confirm, Midget is for 17 and under (15-17), although most of the girls on these teams are 15 and 16. They play in their own leagues, not against Intermediate/Junior. Intermediate (the top teams play in the PWHL Junior League in Ontario) is technically 21 and under, although the vast majority of girls are 16-18. Very few girls still play at this level after they finish high school.

Please excuse my ignorance, but how much will this league cost? How will players have any time for school?
