Canada and Sweden are two very physical teams, the small sheet of ice that they will be playing on in Canada is to their advantage. That is why I picked this team.
GOALTENDERS
Emily Brookshaw L 5'9" 5/14/86
Chanda Gunn L 5'7" 1/27/80
Jessie Vetter L 5'8" 12/19/85
Shari Vogt L 5'10" 10/23/81
DEFENSEMEN
Kasey Bellamy L 5'8" 4/22/87
Molly Engstrom R 5'9" 3/1/83
Anya Miller R 5'8" 4/5/86
Helen Resor L 5'10" 10/18/85
Angela Ruggero R 5'9" 1/3/80
Julianne Vasichek L 5'10" 2/9/83
FORWARDS
Natalie Darwitz R 5'3" 10/13/83
Meghan Duggan R 5'9" 9/3/87
Julie Chu R 5'8" 3/13/82
Tiffany Hagge R 5'9" 5/3/84
Erika Lawler R 5'0" 2/5/87
Gigi Marvin R 5'8" 3/7/87
Erica McKenzie L 5'8" 5/26/86
Sarah Parsons R 5'8" 7/27/87
Jenny Potter L 5'4" 1/12/79
Karen Thatcher L 5'8" 2/29/84

I need to cut two goaltenders.

What does anyone think about Molly Schaus - freshman goalie at BC? I've seen her play a numer of times and she is VERY good, quick, and cool as a cucumber under pressure. Not to take away from the existing goalies, but this is a youngster who has really stepped in and played some great goal. No international experience, but maybe worth the risk?

Not a bad team!
Not sure about Ruggero, Lawler & Parson's
Good pick with Zaugg! What's up with Johnson and her? She seem's to get the job done, but he doesn't seem to want to promote her...............
Always like to see stronger d on a smaller sheet of ice.

Everyone mentioned is a quality player, but I wonder if USA Hockey shouldn't be changing their thought process on what type of player is necessary to beat Canada. So, for example, do you build a team for speed (take a Thunstrom type) or more physical ( A Zaugg or Parsons type)?
Also, in the net, why not give new blood a shot? Gunn hasn't gotten it done, and I seem to recall she wasn't very gracious in the loss to Sweden. So why not Vetter or Schaus?
Remember what Herb Brooks told USA Hockey in 1980, "I am not taking the 20 best players, I a tmaking the 20 players with the best chance to win."

spike,
Was able to watch Parsons twice this year out east and wasn't sure she was as physical as others. I like Vetter "Alot" in the net!

I would agree, Veter is a solid goaltender and would be my first pick as well.

DC-Looked up Shaus stats from this past year, WOW! I hope she gets a invite to the U22 camp. You could put her in the mix with these other goaltenders.
Spike- I think with the small sheet of ice you need to go with the more physical players, I like Thunstrom's speed but I already took Lawler for that.
Easton-I would keep Lawler for PK alone, she is fast and a pest. I might have to replace Ruggero if she is working with "The Donald" I would move Chu back to D and Bring on Hilary Knight (R 7/12/89) to the team.

It's the thought that counts, not the example. Maybe Parsons isn't the best example of "physical". I was using "physical" as distinguished from "speedy".

I would have to take Vogt and Vetter for the goalies. She didn't have the best record at Mankato, but she had a great save percentage and goals against average. Unfortuantely she played at MSU before they could score goals. She also made NHL tonight as a senior in high school for making 85 saves in a game. Given the forwards and defensemen MN Fan picked, I think she would be perfect.

Sorry but Potter King, Parsons and Lawler are great players but not ready for the the team. I like Faber think she is extremely smart and i also like Sanders faster than anyone on the team and extremely smart and i like Duggan hard worker and smart. It is not always size and speed it's upstairs that counts.
This team will do fine but still need to add more young talent to let them grow and understand what it takes to be a winner.

Snick-
Who would you replace Lawler with?
Who would you replace Potter with?
Who would you replace Parsons with?
I do like Sanders (R 5'6" 5/17/87) and Faber (R 5'4" 5/8/87) but where?

Potter is a proven player, and a leader, which is what the team needs. King was one of the best women's players in the game, and is now retired. You should already know that if you are commenting on the National team. Parsons has probably the best vision and head for the game of anyone on the team. Her skating could use some work, but she will be around for years to come, and will excell. As far as young talent, I would say there is plenty, and a good mix of vets.
Shaus will be on the U19 squad this summer.

Hux, the "King" in question is likely Kristin, not Katie. Potter also just had another kid, which makes her something of a question mark this year.

duh, my very bad. Though Kristin is a proven player on the world stage and is certainly an asset.

I'm a Parsons fan as well who thinks she's a perfectly legit member of a US National team. No need to feel sorry for me.

Lameroux sisters are better than all of them. Bring on Hilary Knight put her on a line with a couple of playmakers like the Lameroux twins (two of the FEW American girls that really understand the passing game).
Vetter is by far my pick, its save percentage that matters, not GAA.
Save your strong focused Defensemen and give up some lone ranger types for the playmakers. Play it more like the Canadians and we'll have a chance.
