Just read the story regarding the ECAC Women's East realignment starting next year. Interested to hear reactions to the changes. Does this really have any significant impact on the schedules, rivalries or playoffs? For example, nothing was mentioned regarding the status of St. A, Holy Cross and St. Michaels.

I posted the below on the ECAC East thread, I thought it made sense to repeat it on this thread:

Interesting article about the realignment next year of the ECAC East into 2 divisions, North and South:

The South looks much tougher, based on this year's results.

It's not clear to me how the 9 games outside your division will work in order to be fair. Top 8 teams in league winning percentage make playoffs so unbalanced schedule may not be fair. Will MIT now play a full league schedule? Are the D-II schools now going to be in the playoffs? If not, then 8 of 9 teams make playoffs (IIRC, no HC, St. A, St. Mike's).

I'm curious to see how the post season will work for this.

this announcement by the ECAC appears to be another well thought organizational move.when are they going to get it, you can;t implement a change like this without dealing with a major issue ,like who will be eligible for the playoffs.either St.A's ,St.mike's are in or they are out .do the entire job and make a decision .
Does anyone know of a situation where a team plays in a league and is not elibible for the conference championship? r

I think this is an interesting decision. If a few more teams add in the next one or two years, we could see a complete splitting of the "divisions" into seperate conferences. Maybe officials are betting on that and starting to split the teams. I too am interested in exactly how playoffs will work. Oh well, I trust they have something figured out!

I'm sure the coaches and players would like to know as well, particularly since recruiting goes on every day. I suppose we'll just have to assume that St. Mikes, Holy Cross and St. A's will simply have to be "grateful" that they're allowed to play in the conferences at all.

so as i understand it ,unless there is a change,9 of the 12 teams will be eligible for the 8 team playoffs.M'ville must like the new split.not having the games against against Hc and St.A's count doesn't hurt their playoff and NCAA chances.
