On paper, judging from their records,it appears that there should be a couple of pretty good hockey games this weekend in Rochester between RIT and Saint Anselm.Any thoughts, insights etc. on this series?

Based on the season to date, you'd have to give the nod to St. A only because of strength of schedule.
If you don't look at opponents played, RIT leads the ECAC East in penalty kill and St. A in power play. So one interesting stat after the game will be to see what happens on special teams.
In terms of injury, I have no idea about RIT; St. A has been playing with two of its main players at far less than 100%, though they recently have been contributing more and more.
One worrisome part is that St. A has a habit of dominating play, particularly on defense and shots on goal, but only doing what is necessary to win, typically by one goal in low scoring games. For the most part, they haven't "buried" the teams they could have. That's ok if you keep winning, but run into an off night, hot goalie, wierd ref or bad bounce and that domination won't count for much...
In the end, it should be a well skated couple of games. I'd give St. A's the nod 5-2 on Saturday night, primarily due to a little payback from the loss last year. It was one of the poorest games St. A played, and they were a little embarrased on their home ice. St. A by a squeeker Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

I don't get it -- what does RIT have to do to get some respect? Prior to the win over St. A, they were 10-0-0, 8-0-0 in ECAC East play, yet only get 5 points in the poll? They've won every game! What the heck else is expected of them?

Well their fans didn't help them much

I believe they didn't get a lot of votes based solely on the teams that they had played previous to Saint Anselm. Before most of those games were easy wins but now in these bigger games they will be able to prove themselves.

I know it is possible, but to give out two penalties at 17.50 of the third period to two different players seems a little unusual.St.A's is down by one goal at the time .these must have been two very flagrant violations for the ref to make these calls at an important juncture of a tight and important game.
I thought it was only the refs in the mens games that were not letting the kids play.

They have not earned respect yet
going 10-0 agaisnt weak teams does not earn any respect
todays game and the next 3 following today will earn them respect
if they win today.. and 2 of 3 of the next few
they will definately earn it

I finally made it out to RIT to watch these two games (I usually watch the guys). And like everyone else I was waiting for some good competition to come to town to see how RIT compares to some high end teams. It was very entertaining with up and down action, the crowd was great, and the girls on both teams played their hearts out. I was really impressed with both teams.

I just wish the RIT parents that consistantly write on this board would finally write something repectful about their own daughters and their own "team". Give your kids some credit when they deserve it. All you talk about is how they should do this or that. Well, they did it this weekend and earned a hard fought split with St.A's.
They kept a very strong offense to 3 goals per game and only allowed two 5 on 3 ppg for the entire weekend. And what do you say about it - absolutly nothing.

Great job ladies, I can't wait to watch Wednesday's match up with Elmira. Hopefully you guys can have the same type of rivalry the men used to have.
I really miss those days. Well, sorry for my rant but the girls deserve better support.

Good for you speaking up for the girls--I'm sure a little more support would never hurt. I guess I'm missing something, though, because I haven't seen a lot of RIT posts in general, and certainly not much negative.

I just recall some posts on other threads earlier this year from a couple of posters - tigerdad and hockey11. They always seem to have something to complain about with this program. I guess I was just waiting for a positive posts from them, especially after how both team competed this weekend.
This is pretty much it for me on this topic. Bring on Elmira.

RIT FAN I do not complain about the program, I was against the coaching change and the way Coach Grainsky was treated thats my opinion. Otherwise I have been nothing but supportive of this program. Sorry RIT FAN but I was not able to post anything over the weekend because i did not have a computer with me. And for you info RIT gets plenty of support from the parents on the team we travel great distances to both home and away games. Most of the time at away games there are more RIT parents then the home team has, so dont knock us for support, just because it may not be done on this site.

I was at both games over the weekend and the game on Sat night was one of the most exciting games I have seen RIT play in the 3 years my daughter has been on the team. RIT probley played there best game in those 3 years this past Sat. Outstanding goaltending kept them in the game after they were outplayed in the first period, but in the second and third periods RIT carried the play and showed great team spirt and in my opinion shocked ST. A's.

Sunday was a different story St. A's was by far the better team this day. They controlled most of the game RIT did have spurts of control. RIT shot themselves in the foot by taking so many penalties in the first period giving St. A's 3, 2 man advantages in which they turned into 2 goals the winning margin. RIT played somewhat better in the next 2 periods as the game developed into a very tough game with players from both sides suffering injuries. My only comment was that RIT did not handle the 2 man advantage with 1:45 to play right as they waited another minute before pulling the goalie to give them a 6-3 advantage.

Overall both teams played there hearts out and both teams knew how important these games were.

hockeysb11--

thanks for the game report--appreciate having eyes and ears when I can't make the games!

glad to see the Tigers playing better and better, and just sorry they won't be in the East next season--we need more of these kinds of games, not fewer.

heard from a couple people that the only down side to this weekend's games was Nagymarosi's confusion over which sport she was playing--hockey or olympic diving. there was considerable surprise that the refs didn't call her on it/them ;)

as far as how important the games are, they certainly are to RIT but unfortunately not to the Hawks, at least not in terms of Conference championships. They're playing for pride and for each other, and it's one of the things that is making them more dangerous each year to the top teams in D3.

The refs in Rochester must be real sticklers on the rules.
In both games St.a's had two penalties called against two different players in the last 2 minutes of the game.Lyons was called for interference at 17:50 of the third period in game one and at 17:58 of the third in game two .

I think St.A's should be careful when playing in close games in Rochester.
Being two men down for the last two minutes of the game makes it pretty tough to win games.
