For the first time since 1984, SUNY Potsdam will field a Women's Hockey team next year. Here is the link to story

From the press release:
"The lack of other women’s hockey teams and budget cutbacks caused the previous team to fold in 1984. However, times have changed and SUNY Potsdam will be the fifth member of the SUNY Athletic Conference to have women’s hockey. Two other SUNYAC institutions are currently in the process of creating teams. Seven SUNYAC schools with teams will allow for an official competitive conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)."
This will lead to a "remodeling" of the women's D-III league landscape as the SUNYAC schools start their own conference (and leave the ECAC-III West).

ECAC West would become???
Elmira
RIT
Chatham
Utica
Neumann
I'd guess that Manhattanville would move into the ECAC West like they are in the Men's side but then who would be the 7th team? I doubt William and Smith start up a women's program (Hobart's sister school).

Prez you can't have both. Either the sport continues to grow and conferences fold and new teams get added in or everything stays the same and gets stagnant. But look at it this way:
SUNYAC:
Platty
Potsdam
Cortland
Buffalo
Oswego
Brockport?
Fredonia?
and I have heard that in Oneonta's 10 year plan there is a design for a rink and a Men's and Women's Hockey program
ECAC-W
Elmira
Utica
Neumann
Chatham
RIT
Manhattanville
and what about one the 12 or so teams that are in the east jumping over as well. Something that would be a good geographical fit. Who that may be, I have no clue.

Has there been any discussion at Binghampton about starting a women's program?

Binghamton is a D1 school and a member of the American East (Hockey East). i know they used to have a men's team back in the day but due to Title IX i dont think the Bearcats would be adding men's or women's hockey any time soon again.
