Its interesting to see the schools mentioned as no fewer than 4 of these schools are commonly mentioned as "contenders for making the jump to NCAA D-I"
EASTERN STATES COLLEGIATE HOCKEY LEAGUE
ESCHL To Launch in 2007-2008
2006-12-20
WEST BLOOMFIELD [MI] - The 2007-2008 season will see the launch of the American Collegiate Hockey Association's newest Division 1 league, the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL). The ESCHL will begin play with six founding member teams:
University of Delaware [Newark, DE]
Drexel University [Philadelphia, PA]
United States Naval Academy [Annapolis, MD]
Penn State University [State College, PA]
University of Rhode Island [Kingston, RI]
University of Scranton [Scranton, PA]
Each team will play 20 league games: 4 games against each team (2 home, 2 away contests). The inaugural ESCHL Playoffs will be held on February 15-16, 2008, and will be hosted by the United States Naval Academy. 4 teams will qualify for the playoffs, with #1 vs #4, and #2 vs #3 on Friday. Saturday will see the Consolation Final followed by the first-ever ESCHL Playoff Championship Game.

I believe I read on Penn State Hockey's website (it's not there anymore - just a link to the article posted below) that the winner of the tournament would get an automatic bid into the ACHA National Tournament. Can anyone confirm that? Wouldn't that go against the current practice of taking the top 16 teams from the rankings?

The regular season winner of every ACHA Div I League (CSCHL, ECHA, ECHL) gets an automatic bid to Nationals. Usually the regular season winner of each league is already in the top 16 but the winner of this years ECHL (most likely RMU-PA) will most likely not be in the top 16. The ECHL regular season winner will get the #16th seed thus kicking out whoever ends up #16th.

I also heard though that a new league cannot qualify for an autobid in year 1? They are only elgible in year 2 of the leagues existence any truth to this? If there is there will not be an AQ from this league in 07-08 right?

That is correct. 1st year leagues do not get an automatic bid just like the new Central PA league didnt get one this year. Presumably the regular season winner of the ESCHL should already be in the top 16.

I heard a rumor that another D1 league is being formed with about 7 or 8 teams with teams from NY, PA, and NJ. I just heard a brief rumor so I don't know which teams.
