Any thoughts for the weekend tourney ......Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Elmira, Williams? Should be some good hockey.

Very exciting matchups!! arguably 4 of the best programs the East has to offer with really only teams like Manhattanville, Utica, and Bowdoin having legitimate claims to being in that elite class.

Obviously the big matchup will be between Middlebury and Plattsburgh. #1 and #2 doesnt get any better especially with the talent on both sides. Middlebury will have the disadvantage of this being their first game played this season while Plattsburgh already has a handful under their belt.

Midd will have to find a replacement for Kate Kogut and Emily Quizon. However, other than that the Panthers return basically everyone from their 3rd straight national championship team last year.

Platty has been looking strong early and they return one of the best goalies in the country if not the best in Bre Doyle.

Hmmmmm......no chance given to Williams or Elmira?

I wouldnt say no chance. However, plain and simple. The top two teams in the eastern region this year are going to be Plattsburgh and Middlebury until proven otherwise. Elmira went 0 for 3 against Plattsburgh last year. The Eagles did bring a solid recruiting class and have had good results so far after dropping that close contest to Superior.

EC will have a good chance to prove themselves this weekend by beating Williams and then the Midd/Platty winner but it's going to take a lot to be up at the same level that those two teams were clicking at the end of last season.

Plattsburgh has to be the heavy favorite. They are at home and they have several games under their belt. These will be the first games for Midd and Williams. Don't forget that Williams beat Midd handily (4-1) last year in the regular season in the purple valley. I'd rate Midd and Williams on neutral small ice as equal to start the season. Don't know anything about Elmira other than they were a step behind Midd last year and I haven't heard anything that makes me think that they've bumped it up from there. But since I really don't know anything about them, I could be way off base.

I think Middlebury and Williams may have some problems only because they are the first games of the season.

Certainly. However, unfortunately for many D3 teams. Midd not on top of their games is still one hell of a formidable opponent that can beat a majority of D3 teams. Coach Mandigo usually has his team prepared for every matchup and that's a big reason why they're 77-9-1 in their last 3 seasons, all resulting in National titles.

Williams needs more point production this year if they want to be consistently up with the top teams in the country. 18 of their 26 games last year were decided by 2 goals or less. 9 of those were losses and 1 was a tie. Definition of a team just needing a little bit more to push them over the top and into the top tier of D3 teams with the Plattsburghs, Middleburys, and Manhattanvilles.

They are still big, but much faster this year overall.

As SHUCrosscheck alluded to, the USCHO Game of the Week will feature both of Saturday's games. You can listen through the USCHO women's page (http://www.uscho.com/women). We'll also have interviews with all 4 head coaches, as well as Stephanie McLean, Anna Condino, Shannon Sylvester, and Jessica Moreau.

In addition, we are hopeful that we will be able to provide archived videocasts of the games for download by early next week so check back for updates on that after the games.
