Can't be that good if Shattuck St. Mary's isn't there. :p ;)
Seriously, looks like a good tournament. Should be some good games.

Too bad Shattuck didn't make the trek to the tourney, but they are hosting their own tournament this weekend.
It will be exciting to see how some of these top teams match up
I think I will pop over and take in a few games on Friday night. It will be good to get a look at some teams from outside of the Boston area without having to drive down to Connecticut or up to Vermont! :D

Where's the Wisconsin Wild Teams?
I believe the WI Wild will be at the Shattuck Tourney this weekend.

Wild were not invited because they rostered Micaela Long last season, which did not sit well with the director from Assabett.... or so the story goes.

I doubt that is the case. Has the Wild attended this tournament before? How did they do in their previous showing?

The Wild U-19 team was not invited to this year's Assabet tournament. It is directly related to their rostering of M. Long last year when she played withthe Wild at nationals. This was told to me by the coach. Believe what you want.

you didn't answer the questions. How did Wisconsin do in previous showings at this tournament? I don't know if the invitation was not issued because of the rostering of a player(where is she now?) or the team's possible performance in previous years.
Other Assabet girls have left to play on other teams, and Assabet still invites those teams to the tourney, that is why it sems a little odd that this one player's departure would have caused so much controversy.

After getting USA hockey to bend the rules to allow players who did not have enough games to qualify for nationals actually play in the national championships, Wisconsin made a number of enemys. Don't be too surprised if they are not invited to many tournamtents, this being probably the first. After playing in this tournament for a number of years, some years they sent two teams, it will be a long time before they are back. It also opens up spots for other quality programs to play at a high level for a weekend. Enjoy the weekend girls! :)

Wow! Although they aren't the first, how do these teams manage this?

Can you explain this? I'm not familiar with the rule or the situation

Yep looks like they do have their own tournament, but I'm heading up to Duluth this weekend so I'll be 4 hours away from Shattuck. I'd love to catch some of the games but I'm not close enough. :( Not too sad though I'll be catching the UMD Bulldogs this weekend. :)

Hey gotice, the guy's right, I was there when Carl Grey told some Wild parents "you will never be invited to my tourney again", and he also told the player, Long something which I did not hear but I heard was to the same effect. It has NOTHING to do with anything else.

I don't know why Wisconsin made enemy's in this situation - sounds more like USA hockey and their williness to play politics should be the ones with the target on their backs.

Here's the deal. M. Long played for Assabet, left Assabet, played for Chelmsford, left Chelmsford, played back at Assabet, left Assabet and went to play at nationals with Wisconsin Wild without fulfilling her 10 game obligation. I know for a fact there were girls on the Wisconsin team who were not happy. So............Long has played at nationals with Assabet, Chelmsford, Assabet and then Wisconsin, which tells me that she and/or her family lack commitment. Carl Gray's issues have more to do with allowing her to come back to Assabet after leaving to go to Chelmsford, only to have her leave again to play for Wisconsin knowingly having broken the "10 game" rule. I don't know why Wisconsin Wild is able to break these rules.
Thanks for the info and clearing the situation up. If it is true that Wisconsin Wild has dug their own grave, I wonder if the coach now feels that his actions from last year were worth the repercussions that this team will now face this year.

Wow. If the WI Wild coach knowlingly did that he's bad. USA Hockey would be worse for letting it then.

What is the substantiation for the accusation that Long did not have her games in with USAH ? I believe proof of these games can be produced. Can anyone show the contrary?
Regardless, the fact is the Wild organization is NOT happy about the decision on the part of Assabet to not invite them, and NOT happy that the coaches put them in such a position. And yes, Assabet's decision is based in the "Long being rostered with the Wild" situation. Should be interesting when Team Illinois shows up with one of the former Wild coaches that was involved in that decision to roster her.
Long had also already "signed" with UNH, and supposedly had no intention of playing for Assabet in her senior year. Looks like she just decided to play with some Pomfret teammates at the Wild.
The Wild has always been competitive at the tourney/showcase. It's a shame that Assabet made that decision, punishing the organization and the players, based on the the poor decision and personal adgendas of a couple of coaches that are no longer with the Wild.

I agree completely - if the coaches were at fault, then they, along with USA hockey, should be held accountable. To not let a competitive organization into a tournament because of a past coaches actions seems childish - holding a grudge doesn't serve anyones best interest and, in the end, only the girls in the Wisconsin organization end up paying the price for adults willingness to break the rules. Let it go, and let the teams talent level be the determining factor on whether to let them in the tournament

But then again we are talking about CG. It really is ashame due to the long and storied history of the Assabet program. IMO very petty.
