I know the USA women's olympic team was defeated by the U16 devils:confused: ... what I mean is , is the hype justified. Not trying to start beef just tryna see how good these women are, it would seem that they must move the puck directly to one another more than in men's hockey?

apples to oranges. Men will excel in athletics due to genetic make up contributing to size, speed, and coordination. The same reason most guys will not be evgeni malkin , is what keeps women from being...well men.

Not comparing it to boys or Under 16 Devils I think its a great game and getting better. These girls are as dedicated to the sport as the boys are. Don't kid yourself. This isn't intermurals. Whats your point anyway?

I'd try to answer the question, but I don't understand what it means? What would it mean to move the puck indirectly to one another?

Perhaps he means women are not as good at anticipating a puck passed into open space? If he did, I wouldn't agree.

He's just trolling....ignore him. He's trying to start this flame on the UNH thread on the men's board too.
women aren't going to be able to compete one on one against men at most athletics because the men have quicker reaction times and are for the most part are stronger...only sports that i can think that they may be even close is horseback riding, horse racing and possibly car racing...
these sports are using and directing other devices, e.g. horses or cars and do not depend primarly on physical strength.
Women's hockey is what it is...women's hockey..it's not men's hockey...
don't try and confuse the two. The women are very good athletes and compete against other women... as they should...so enough on that subject!!!

I didn't imply that men move the puck "indirectly", I was merely indicating the myriad obstacles in men's hockey that are not found in women's (HItting, more shot blocking, stick checking etc.). I'm just interested in knowing whether the lack of obstruction leads to more precise passing than the men's game.

You'd think people would be wise to this silliness. Or do we have to wait for the next "BLANK is going down the tubes" thread on the D-1 board to find that out?

The Women's game for those who appreciate it has come leaps and bounds the past decade. The athletes competing on most competitive division one programs are highly skilled and much bigger, faster, stronger than decades past.
The lack of 'hitting' obviously makes for a different contest, but don't ever think it's not physical. The game has become increasingly physical minus the head on hitting we witness on the men's side. I'm always amazed at how just how much contact they permit, especially on some nights when the officiating allows more bumping.
Shot blocking and sticks in passing lanes has also become more the norm. The good teams are very difficult to move the puck on, or to get shots to the net. Again it's all relative. The men release the puck quicker and certainly with more velocity.
I love the women's game. It's incredibly entertaining. The pace and transition are at a very high level. As a lifelong follower of the sport and most college sports- I'd have to say it's become one of the best kept secrets in the college hockey world. Take someone new to a game, especially when two top 10 or top 15 clubs are squaring off and more often than not you'll hear them exclaim- "hey I never knew the ladies were this good?!?!!"

Put a women's basketball team against a men's team, or a lacrosse team, or volleyball, or whatever. The result would be the same. It's never been a valid comparison and women shouldn't have to measure the caliber of their sport by competing against men. They're only competing against each other. That's enough.

No, I'm just interested in the subtle intracacies of the activities which these fine young athletes engage in.
And crazy otto I wasn't comparing men's hockey to women's hockey, I was just wondering about specifics I should focus on whilst watching these wonderful matches. The vast pool of skill, speed and strength, seemingly inherent to this rising sport, is definitely something to appreciate.

have you ever been to a womens game?
Hockey is hockey, it's just that in (most) womens' hockey games they're not going out there trying to put each other through the glass into the seats with the spectators.
Unfortunately, the other difference is that only 800 (average against in-state teams besides the Goofs) people come to the DECC for games, compared to the 4500+ at the men's games.
Arguing the differences in the games with someone who JUST now turned 18(his profile) and came in with a question that didn't have anything to do with D-1 college hockey in the first place.........(women's olympic hockey vs a U16 team)... time to go back whatever was going on before the thread popped up.

Very well put. Its like comparing men's and women's basketball.
