I wouldn't mind seeing a fast start for the Gophs in each game this weekend...nope, wouldn't mind that at all.

GO SIOUX!

Bemidji wins 2-0. Gophers living dangerously on the bubble.

I think the best thing that Minnesota can do is forget about the postseason. Their season right now consists of one game -- Feb 10 vs. Bemidji St. The WCHA doesn't matter, UMD doesn't matter. Come out hard (for once) from the opening faceoff, and try to win that game. At present, they aren't getting better. Outplayed, outworked, outcoached -- a total team defeat. The powers that be at USCHO probably think Brookshaw has a leg up for DPOTW at this point, but I think it was more a team win than one stolen by a goaltender.

Thanks for posting, Reusse. Or were you just his muse (because at least he could spell)?

Bemidji was better in every aspect of the game.

The Gophers had five or six good opportunities I would say but none that required the Bemidji netminder to do anything particularly spectacular. She made the saves she was expected to make and the defense covered up. Meanwhile at the other end Bemidji scored on its first shot on goal, quite a soft goal, I might add. They got their second on one of those the hockey gods must have meant it to be a goal scrambles in the crease when apparently it was pushed in, not shot in. And that's all they needed.

Outskated, outworked, outprepared, outexecuted, outcoached. The Gophers played without heart and probably the only one left is out of the NCAAs?

I agree with ARM that a failure to win on February 10 would render the rest of the season meaningless. There are only so many times you can draw a new line in the sand and say the season starts now. There are only so many second chances. The team needs to do it now and they need to do it convincingly or I and the rest of their fans will have to join ARM in admitting that we have officially entered the mode of waiting for next year.

What the H-E-Double Hockey sticks happened yesterday? Was it a case of good goaltending on the part of Bemidji or poor play on the part of Minnesota?

I went to the "wait until next year" signature after the Mankato weekend, when the team's play over the previous three weeks convinced me that perhaps they too were looking ahead. In a conference with an autobid, no team is truly out of it until they run out of games; unfortunately, our 1-8-1 record of late versus Bucky suggests that might be as realistic as a retirement plan that involves the Powerball.

I still haven't gone back and viewed the recording of the game. That sounds like a perfect Monday activity. Based on what I've observed, I do think some members of the team are working very hard. In some cases, people need to work smarter, not harder. Pass the puck -- ideally to a teammate. The standard mode of operation in the 3rd period last night was to skate into the zone and either shoot without looking left or right, or stickhandle until all other options had been exhausted, then attempt a pass to a player who was now standing flatfooted because they had no idea what the puckcarrier intended to do. Do your job, trust your teammates, pass the puck.

Gophs, you are losing to teams who are taking joy in beating you. Take joy in beating them. Forget about standings, polls, PWR, and other lofty goals. Just compete with your opponent and have fun. After all, that's why you started playing the game in the first place.

Probably more the powers that be at the WCHA. It's not often that a goalie makes over 70 saves in a triple-overtime game during the regular season that moves their team into position for an NCAA berth -- or more like never.

What the H-E-Double Hockey sticks happened yesterday? Was it a case of good goaltending on the part of Bemidji or poor play on the part of Minnesota?Brookshaw is a very good goaltender. I'd put her right up at the top level in the conference along with Vetter and Kehler (haven't seen Martin, but I'm assuming she'd be in the mix as well.) Yesterday, she obviously stopped everything she needed to stop, but IMO, the Gophs made things rather easy on her. Too many shots came from a player who had held the puck for several seconds, so Brookshaw was set and didn't have to move. I can also think of a case where she was down and a player failed to get a rebound over her pad, and at least two times where players had net to shoot at but missed the target.

It's not often that a goalie makes over 70 saves in a triple-overtime game during the regular season that moves their team into position for an NCAA berth -- or more like never. In fact, nobody outside of Boston even has such an opportunity (sort of a corollary on the "don't discriminate against Ivy players who play less games" opinion.) But by all accounts Schaus played great and deserves any awards, pending results vs. UConn.

Anyone know what time the senior day festivities start today?I couldn't find it listed, but they have always been before the usual player introductions. For a 3:07 start with 3 seniors, I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 2:50 to 2:55.

I guess Halldorson does deserve to get fired. She does put the skates on and play like crap. Did they know that Chartier was going to leave school? NO! Did they know Wall wasn't going to play when they were recruiting for this year? NO! Was your daughter dumped on by Laura, or were you? I don't think I've ever seen a positive post out of you towards the Gophers.

Nice to see Nichols and Graft get goals yesterday. They've been so close for so long they needed to finish. Philipczyk's goal was nice to see as well. The Gopher's played much better yesterday.

Zebro at wing was fun to watch. I think I like her better as a forward. Wonder if this will carry into next season or is only temporary?

Good Luck to Wacker, Maggie, and Nichols! Thanks for four great years. You guys were my introduction to hockey (wouldn't have started coming if it weren't for a certain senior:)), and I will miss watching the three of you in the coming years! Now, onto the end of the season which will hopefully having me watching you all play quite a few more games!
