2 years in a row Jackie O'Neil has gotten robbed from being an All-American!! What the hell do you need her to do? score 92 goals in a season like Gretzky or total 215 points? or would that only be good for honorable mention? :mad: :mad:

It's a travesty when the 2nd best forward in the storied history of the Elmira College Hockey Program doesnt receive All-American in either of her last 2 superb seasons.

Jackie was the heart and soul of this Elmira team this year. She took the rookies under her wing and showed them the ropes. She and her fellow upperclassmen had a daunting task this season of not only playing shorthanded the whole season with an incomplete roster, but also playing with 11 freshmen as well.

Absolutely Ridiculous! To the committee that chose these teams, for shame...thank you for snubbing one of the nicest girls I ever met as well as a **** fine hockey player that deserved this prestigous honor.

Jackie, You're an All-American in my book and any other sane human being as well. Thank you for 4 outstanding years of hockey. We will sorely miss you and your classmates next season. I'll never forget the memories of watching the golden streak of #91 soaring around the Murray playing her heart out :(

Wow I was off. He started a whole thread of his own.

First of all congratulations to all the selected.

Hats off to Prez or P&G. If Jackie ONeil reads this she will feel vindicated. I too have enjoyed watching this lovely young talented lady play. She is mature and will respect the decison and especially be happy for her friend and co-player of the year Jen Clarke. She is a class act.

Please SHUcrosscheck don't ruin such a nice article about a nice girl whom I believe was overlooked. It is not nice to trash these players who work all year to be nominated. Jackie deserves her own thread. She did make a difference to the Elmira team not only this year but in previous years and if you ask any of her teammates they will agree, past and present.

Imagine how the girl must feel everyone who was voted player of the year or co-player was named "All American" but her...

majk,
the things prez said about the player were very nice, as you say. BUT, the sour grapes were not and that is what SHU commented on. He did not disparage jackie....

I was actually talking about the fact he made it a joke. It is a very important honor for us players and he made it sound like a joke that P&G would start his own thread. Jackie is co player of the year All American should follow..it did for all the others, I think it was more shock than sour grapes anyway. She was such a big part of the team and none of you will ever know, except the ones that played with her or against her. So let him have his say. He is a decent guy.

Thanks Trudy, I was thinking the same. I didn't really like the joke about the thread but I am sure it was all in fun not thinking how it might hurt the player. I am sure it was shock factor not sour grapes. Prez has followed the team a long time . I am sure coach Wood will be disappointed for her as well. But what can you do ...thats the way it is...like it or not.
She still is co player of the year so somebody noticed her and nobody can take that away from her.

well, he predicted multiple posts(SHU, that is) and Prez started a thread
it is/was a little comical

Prez is a fine guy,devoted fan, and nowhere did I suggest he should not "have his say"
but to ignore the thread title, frowny face,etc. as you seem to be doing, well :confused:

It was a jab at Prez. Nothing to do with Jackie. Now get over it.

I am sure coach Wood will be disappointed for her as well.

So will Coach Nemetz-Carlson, Coach Turner and everyone on the team. She is truly a classy person and had one heck of a year even with moving the lines as much as they had to. She really made her mark on the stretch run when they won 9 straight.

I thought we knew a long time ago she wasn't going to get it, because she wasn't all conference.

Jackie was first team all-conference and co-player of the year in the ECAC West along with Plattsburgh's Jenn Clarke who was named 1st team all-american.

Can someone answer for me what changed in 1 week? :confused:

Look here is the deal. Jenn Clarke was the only first team ECAC - West player to get an all-american accolade. The other All-americans from the ECAC-West were second team (Nolan, Doyle, Blanchard). This leads me to two conclusions.

1. Jackie might have done a good job against conference opponents and then disappeared in other games.

2. Most of the ECAC-West coaches are idiots and the voting proves it.

This comment caught my attention and i researched how Jackie did against Elmira's "quality opponents"

Manhattanville- 1 goal
@RPI- 0 points
@Midd- 0 points
Williams- 1 assist
@ Manhattanville- 1 goal
Hamilton- 2 goals and 2 assists
Utica- 1 assist
Utica- 2 assists
@Plattsburgh- 0 points
@Plattsburgh- 1 goal
RIT- 1 assist
@NEC- 1 goal and 1 assist
@Neumann- 1 assist
@Neumann- 1 goal and 1 assist
@Bowdoin- 1 goal and 3 assists
Utica- 0 points
@Plattsburgh- 0 points

8 goals and 13 assists in 17 "big" games for Elmira....

21 points which is half of her points in the big games...I'd say she earned her fair share in Elmira's big games when she was getting keyed on defense because she was Elmira's top player.

ok lets break this down a little further.

8 goals and 13 assists.

the RPI game doesn't count throw that out.

the Bowdoin game was against a team that was in a bit of a free fall at that time so I bet most coaches threw that out.

RIT is not really a big game. They are not even in the radar screen when it comes to the national picture. So that gets thrown out.

Hamilton was an OK team but again like RIT not even a blip. That gets thrown out.

NEC, while a challange to teams this year is not considered a top game yet. So that gets thrown out.

So that leaves us with these out of conference games which was the original point of my statement:
Manhattanville- 1 goal
@Midd- 0 points
Williams- 1 assist
@ Manhattanville- 1 goal

That is against NCAA tournament teams. Not exactly great numbers. This does however bolster my second claim that the ECAC-West coaches vote like republicans.

I don't know why people are so caught up on statistics, because when it comes down to it, it really doesn't matter if points are scored against winning or losing teams.....performance can't always be depicted by how many points you get....sometimes it is harder for an elite player to score points against strong teams, but it's not because they can't....it's often because more attention is paid to top players like Jenn Clarke, Jaclyn O'Neill, Emily Quizon, etc..., which makes it harder for them to be the one to score....but usually, in circumstances like this, these players are able to cause so much havoc for the opposing teams, that their teammates, players like Danielle Blanchard, Kayla Coady, Annmarie Cellino are able to capitalize on the extra room available on the ice....I'm sure Jaclyn's +/- was tops in the league, even if she didn't get a point on every goal Elmira scored.....which brings me to another very interesting point....Though I was unable to attend the previous weekend's Divisional Finals, I did have the pleasure of attending the NCAA Regionals Final game, Plattsburgh vs. Elmira.....despite the fact that there were two referees in this game (for whatever reason I am not sure), not one of the goals that was scored, was properly accredited....nearly every goal for both teams was originally announced to be unassisted by the refs, when there was often an obvious assist or even 2....which is definitely another reason that some points do not show up on the score sheets...it just so happens that the most obvious of these instances, was a 3 way passing play by Elmira, scored by # 20 on a breakaway....too bad the goal was given to #55 unassisted.......and by golly, Jaclyn was the one who sent the girl on the breakaway......the fact that she did not complain to get the goal changed in her favour, shows the kind of character that any person, whether in a sport, or in life, would be proud to display.......that's All-American!.......Congratulations to Jaclyn!
Also, Congratulations to Middlebury on their championship!..well done!
