#1 University of New Hampshire vs. Harvard University
Friday March 17th, 7:00 PM
Whittemore Center, Durham NH

To UNH fans, the AD is pushing this as a "White Out the Whitt" game so be sure to wear white and be ready to leave without a voice.

I'll be wearing white and banging on a cowbell.

I'll be in Boston thought. Still have mixed feelings about that.

Won't BU be wearing their homes?

Won't BU be wearing their homes?

Yeah, probably, but that doesn't affect my jersey choice. What does is the fact that I don't like my blue jersey all that much - doesn't fit me well, and I've only seen UNH play 2 good games while wearing it (first BU game, third Maine game). I've been wearing the white at road games for most of the season.

Rob, you'll have to yell for me too. I'll try to wear white that evening, but I'll be down in Atlanta. :(

Someone, please text me score updates!

Anyone going to the game want to gather downtown (LIbby's?) to watch the first 2/3 of the men's game which starts at 5?

I was hoping the 'Cats would face Brown on Friday - a chance at revenge for their loss earlier in the season. Got Maine and BC in the HE tourney. Ah well. Go Cats!

Someone, please text me score updates!

As long as someone text me (or Darci) score updates, I got you covered.

if you txt me, I"ll get you updates.. just can't promise I'll remember otherwise :)

What are some thoughts on the game at hand? Harvard is playing their best hockey of the season, I imagine... UNH hasn't been tested in quite some time. Stone always has her teams ready to go in the post season it seems, and they have some NCAA experience on their team..

Does Harvard give UNH a run for their money, or do the Cats continue to roll into the Frozen Four?

Depends on what you mean by that... I don't think this game is going to be pretty much over before by the second intermission like most every game UNH has played in the second half. Harvard's not going to roll over when they fall behind. As I've said before, it's pretty rare that a Harvard team gets blown out and doesn't have much to play for in the third period -- though it's been a lot less rare this season.

I'll have Darci call and yell at you if you forget. :D (just kidding)

The Kazoo boys are supposed to text her scores, so it shouldn't be a problem.

And no, UNH hasn't really been tested (Maine and BC had some flurries, and Maine was in the semifinal game until the third, but nothing major), but they haven't just sat back and taken it easy, either.

I will say this: I think Harvard will end UNH's shutout streak.

I don't get out of work til 5, so I'm gonna high tail it up to the Whitt as fast as I can and make it just as the doors open at 6 (something tells me we're going to have A LOT of signs to setup :D). I haven't seen anything official yet, but there was talk of a pre-game rally in the Whitt lobby starting at 5:30, with the Pep Band.

Also, there is a TV link next to this game on the 'Cats USCHO schedule, it leads to a blank page, but does anyone know if anybody plans on carrying this? The game will be carried via the internet on Yahoo! Broadcast in it's entirety and will be joined in progress on the radio at the conclusion of the men's game.

There is no way this game will be decided by anymore than two goals, the 'Cats will have a battle on their hands (for the first time in a good while), but they are more than up to the challenge. GO BLUE!

The radio is all I've seen on the UNH website.

Harvard's women's hockey team - which won the ECAC Hockey League tournament championship earlier Sunday - will face top-seeded and No. 1-ranked New Hampshire in the first round of the 2066 NCAA tournament this Friday at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.

The Crimson will give UNH all they can handle in this game. Why?

1) One of their regular season games was 2-1 going into the late stages before UNH won.

2) Playoff games are a different animal ... and in this case the pressure is all on the #1 ranked Wildcats.

3) If it is a close the game going into the 3rd period ... I am hopeful that the coaches on the UNH bench understand the psychological as well as the physical side of the scenario ... and coach accordingly ... unlike, shall we say, some other team.

I believe in the final analysis that UNH will win this game because a) they have more depth in lines 3-4 then Harvard (who I think are weakened by the Olympic defections) ... b) unlike previous years, UNH has size as well as talent on defense...and, 3) Bourbon is very impressive at this stage in the season.

I think the bigger factor is this Harvard team is loaded with postseason experience -- even the freshmen now have the experience of playing five ECAC tourney games that went down to the wire. Then sophomores and beyond all have played a 3OT NCAA quarterfinal.

UNH has proven it can hang on in some close games this year (Wisco, Mercyhurst, Providence) but whether they'll be as proficient with their season on the line remains to be seen.

I agree entirely with point b, but I don't think point a matters much. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Harvard's weaknesses this year have been young D and taking too many penalties, and UNH obviously has a huge edge in D talent and PP. And certainly all three lines on UNH can take advantage of Harvard mistakes. But I think Harvard has lines that can take advantage of mistakes too, but the thing is UNH's D isn't going to make mistakes. So I don't think forward depth is the signficant factor here.

The bigger factor aside from UNH's D is that UNH's top line and PP unit is just head and shoulders above everyone else in the country right now. I'd point to that as your advantage more so than your depth.
3) Bourbon is very impressive at this stage in the season.
I agree bourbon is very impressive this time of year, but I expect all the players will be sober, so this will not give UNH any edge.

Bourdon though has been impressive lately, and I don't see any reason for UNH not to be confident in her. Same with Boe on the other end.

Wicked Smaht! :D

Maybe their fans won't show up for another 60 years :D

We will probably see all those old guys carrying their seat cushions with their hand behind their back though. ;)

The girls are ready, it doesn't matter who they have played in the last couple of months, this is considered a new season to everyone on the team.

I wasn't thoroughly impressed with the Harvard/Brown game, it was kind of slow paced. It must have been an off game because I fully expect Harvard to bring their A game to the Whitt.

Should be a good game.

One thing is for sure, I can't wait for Friday.

Did you think the first period was slow-paced? I thought Harvard was flying when it was coming from behind? I think teams were a little burned out thereafter.

Also, I think everything looks slower on TV.

Scott was thinking it would be good to face Brown also, kind of like the men's team in '99 beating all the teams that knocked them out in earlier years.

I have you covered, may not be extremely detailed like gib needs ;) but it will get you the info.

Matt:
On a side note, the "friendly" staff at the Fleet Center tried to take away the bell in the 3rd period 2 years ago. That's why we had to sit with the band last year :( (sorry band, but every year we feud up until the postseason, then we get along and it never ends up going our way, this year is different)

Maybe the TD Garden is more friendly (like Fenway; where even the rats say hi) Luckily you only have the back up bell, so if you lose it, it won't be a huge loss.
