UNH has a chance to clinch the top seed in the Hockey East playoffs with a win over BU (or a win in any of their remaining three games, which I have to think they have a pretty good chance of getting;)). A 'w' puts them 4 points ahead of BC, and the Wildcats hold the tiebreaker.

Will BU put up a fight on Wednesday?
Anyone heading to the game?

It is wonderful to see the UNH women at the top of their game right now. (Kind of like the days when the men had McCloskey behind their bench.) My question is, not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things, who is the voter that places Wisconsin ahead of UNH. That person has got to be delusional. Let's hope the Cats win out and don't choke in the playoffs.

I was asking myself, the same question. After the lone voter see's these polls, do's he/she ask "what was i thinking/drinking".

the PWR is what really matters. I'm wondering how solid UNH's grasp is on that top spot... their RPI is taking a hit playing these last 5 games against UConn/BU/UVM... it will improve from that playing BC/PC/Maine in the Hockey Easts....

Do they have to go unbeaten the rest of the season/HEA tournament to hold on to #1? Hopefully that's not an issue as they're rollin (longest unbeaten streak in program history, and 3rd longest in college hockey history, I believe I read?)

Their RPI doesn't really take a hit. Those games against Vermont get dropped in the NCAA's calculation. The reality is it'll look more fair in comparison to SLU and Wisconsin, since their RPI on USCHO has been counting games against Union and Vermont, respectively.

By my estimates, if Wisconsin and SLU win out playing the toughest conf. tourney opponents possible, SLU's RPI will be about .655, Wisc will be about .66. UNH if it wins out, its RPI would be about a .67, if it loses in the conf. final or to BU, about .66 a little under Wisconsin. If it loses in the conf. semi, about dead even with SLU.

They seem pretty save against SLU though, because they would still have a L16 and records vs. teams > .500 edge, even if they finished even in RPI. Only problem might be if they lose to PC in the HE final since PC is a common opponent.

As for Wisconsin, UNH seems to have the edge in L16, Wins against teams above .500 and H2H even if UNH loses a game. If Wisconsin does pass UNH in RPI it will likely be by a pretty small margin.

So I think UNH can afford to lose one more game and still be No. 1.

I think it depends on whether you count overlapping seasons. Minnesota went 27 between its first and second NCAA title seasons. Harvard had longer unbeaten streaks in 1998-99 and 2002-03.

No idea, I just read that on the unhwildcats.com website, I think, or maybe hockeyeastonline.com :)
thanks for the insight, by the way

Yeah, the UNH website says:

"The No. 1-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team has an NCAA-record unbeaten streak of 23 games (22-0-1) with 11 consecutive victories and an overall record of 27-2-1."

under team notes on the hockeyeastonline website it says:

"The 23-game unbeaten streak is the program's single-season record and ties the third longest mark overall ... "

maybe when it says 'overall' it means UNH's third longest, including between seasons (?)

bu does put up a fight (from what i've seen/read). and seeing as how the men ruined bu's winning streak, i'm going to go ahead and root for the major upset and bu ruining the unh women's streak. :D

Well, of course you're gonna root for your team... even if UNH hadn't ended up BU's winning streak in men's hockey.. silly silly quiz ;) :D

I notice the key word is also NCAA but UNH's program record for unbeaten has to be the soemthing like 74 from the beginning of the program till 81-82 (I think a streak of 57 straight wins or something like that is included). They followed that up with another 27 or so streak with just 1 tie that year through 82-83 (and then I think the loss was to a Canadian school though they counted those games in those days but I believe they won out and went into the 83-84 season before losing again

who what now?

I think he is referring to the visit to the WBA for the womens game we had this year. We sieved Wilcox twice and were immediately told by some old dude in a suit that we were not allowed to use offensive cheers at a womens game or we would kicked out. (He is also the same guy that said we couldn't use a cowbell at the mens game (3 years ago) but the BU band could because they go to BU.)

our fans who ventured down to WBA for the game were told that they had to knock it off when they were 'sieve'-ing BU's goalie after UNH scored.
