(who else do they have at first other than Nomar, wouldnt they want insurance??)

Jeff Kent has been playing some 1B too since the Dodgers are overloaded on middle infielders (both active and injured).

DOnt forget along with Graff I expect Mohr to be traded. I'm not sure they'll go with a new catcher, as it seems like they like Bard. Does Riske have options? If so I wouldnt rule out DiNardo beating him out for the first few series

So the depth chart is:

OF:
Manny
Coco
Trot
Pena
Stern
Mohr
Kapler (hurt?)

MI:
Loretta
Gonzalez
Cora
Graff
(they really like Machado, but he's already in AAA)

CI:
Ortiz
Lowell
Youk
Snow
Choi

C:
Tek
Bard

SP:
Beckett
Schilling
Clement
Wake
Wells

Pen:
DiNardo
Tavarez
Riske
Seanez
Papelbon
Timlin
Foulke

BOLD will be there opening day
Italics are expendable
normal are bubble

I think that looks about right Blackout. Assuming all the bolded guys stay healthy, there won't be room for Graff, Mohr, or Choi. Choi is ok, can start in AAA. I think the same with Mohr. Although he could just be cut. They should be able to get something halfway decent for Graff. Nothing like a starter, unless it's part of a package. I'm not completely sold on Bard as a backup.

Graffanino pulled a rare feat today. He was waived, and homered at the same time. This move is VERY important as now Crisp can move back to his #10.

Beckett and Ryan Howard got into it today. FWIW, they're both *******es here. Kinda funny they both reacted over nothing.

I like Beckett's "fire", but he had to be a little embarassed after the game to hear that Howard lost the ball in the sky and was standing there trying to find it.

And if you believe that I've got a bridge to sell you. Seriously, if you lose sight the ball, you should be running like heck until you pick it up. Howard was just pulling a Bush League stunt.

As a hitter, you never look where the ball is until you get to first base.

Howard was bush league. Beckett was not.

Beckett was being serious, you look like a moron when you admire a fly out.

O-tay.

Even then, irregardless of the plate actions, the throwing of the glove made him look like an idiot.

I agree, as I said, they're both idiots here.

Beckett's a bit of a nutcase. Get used to it Red Sox fans. I remember a game at Shea Stadium last year where Beckett made a throwing error that led to the Mets first run (they won 4-0) and Beckett was later throwing things and smashing water coolers in the dugout because of it.

As long as he doesn't pull a Kevin Brown and take himself out, I'll enjoy watching his competitive streak. I've followed his career since he was drafted and watched several of his AA starts in Portland. I'm borderline giddy to have him in a Sox uni.

Man, you'd think Jack Parker was coaching the Red Sox ;)

Per Edes' blog on the Globe site, another dust-up today at spring training. Julian Tavarez laid a tag on Joey Gathright at home plate today against Tampa, Afterwards Tavarez connected with his chin. Benches cleared.

This was just posted about ten minutes ago.

Great. Because there isn't enough stupid bad blood between these two teams.

Don't get suspended during Double-As games.

I have a question for the Red Sox fans.

Knowing at best you guys will finish in third place what will they be doing in August when there are only 500 fans? Will they have to pay people to go to the games; 30,000 pieces of cardboard in place of real fans. There will be thousands of Bostonians who will trade their red "B" for the white interlocking "NY"

seeing as the season is 90% sold out, we could sign A-Rod, Shane Spencer, and Drew Henson, and the fans woul still come.

3rd place? You cant tell me the '06 Sox arent better than the 05 co-champ Sox. What did the Yanks do this offseason to help their pitching woes? How long until Sheff's shoulder falls apart?

In all seriousness, Giambi, Cano, and Damon will be nice boosts. Jeter will be clutch and A-Rod will be good and not clutch. Who else will do anything for the Yanks? Mari can't help you when you're down 8-7 every night.
