I'd almost rather see him hit a guy like Sheffield who would snap even faster.
I say don hit Damon as we all know he'll just tos the bat and head to first (that is, if he's still breathing). Anyways, I think if there were any retailiation by a certain Sox starter, it should be at a guy from the 2003 team, for nostalgia sake

nice... I have a hunch we're going to stay down in DC and go to a BaySox game in Bowie, but if we make it up to Wilmington, I'll keep an eye outBowie is a nice place to see a game, and they have a good team this season. If you can get there on a fireworks night, they do a really nice job with them.
Isn't Sheff on the DL?
Blackout, I'll see Dobies on Thursday, looking forward to it. He's another with good numbers this season.

this guy sucks:
http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/63546.htm
Why does he "suck"? He happens to be right although you may not like his poor writing style which is standard for the Post.
Sox pitchers have been moving Jeter off the plate for years. Yankee hurlers need to do the same with Ortiz. It's simple baseball. Otherwise he'll continue to lean over the plate wearing body armor and kill them.

Correction, Sox pitchers have been DRILLING Jeter for years, not just moving him off the plate.
A lesser ('tougher', I guess, if you want to be a Sox fan about it) player would have snapped a long time ago and retaliated.

True about the "drilling." I was trying to be polite. lol...
Unlike most players of this era, Jeter understands that pitching inside is part of the game. He tries to retaliate with his bat.
Of course, then there's the "pitching inside" that Pay-dro believed in and practiced against the Yankees. Otherwise known as "head-hunting" which Clemens also did at times.
It's stupid and dangerous and has no place in the game.

true, I was more mad at his presentation. Anyone who knows baseball knows this, he is presenting this like he thought of it, and he also presents his argument horribly. Should the Yanks pitch inside? maybe, but as Wilbur pointed out Ortiz LIKES inside pitches, and he is liable to back off and crush it. He also isnt one who is intimidated easily and he might not back off the plate anyways. Lasty as mentioned, why risk a retaliation? Why get one of your own guys hit for no reason? I'm sure (if it happened) Posada would be real happy when he's knocked down the next inning. It's just stupid. Anyone who quotes Clemens (to support his argument) is worse than stupid, besides.
RE: Dobies
I like the kid, wish he pitched when I was in Greenville last year. I also wish Greenville didnt change their name, but that is besides the point. Anyways, Dobies has a lot of potential. Even better, because of the arms ahead of him, the Sox can really take their time with him.
Speaking of Greenville, anyone who has a free weekend this summer that can get to Greenville DO SO! I had a great time last year, and that was at their old crappy stadium the Greenville Braves used to play at. Now they have a NEW stadium in downtown, with exact Fenway dimensions, and the brick used to build it is from old Comisky (It's Shoeless Joe's hometown). It's a really cool town, and Shoeless Joe's grave (also real cool) is about 2 miles away. I cant wait to go back in June. It's a bit weird to fly to, but I think it's only an hour drive from Charlotte NC.

I say just pitch inside to Manny, and see if they can get him to charge the mound on a called strike this time. :D

Meh. Whatever. I didn't think the point of article was that offensive, but let's not be naive: throw a 90 plus mile per hour fastball at someone and you might be looking a serious - or fatal injury. I'm not going to sit here and say that I like it when Jeter gets plunked, and I certainly don't want to see Papi get hit either.
Two words:
Tony Conigliaro :(

But Jon, what about all the sox fans who like it when Jeter gets plunked?
Oh...and you forgot the other two words...Jack Fisher.

They're probably the same people who called up the Mike Adams show last Friday and complained that "if it wasn't for the 4 runs in the sixth, the Red Sox would have lost the game." :p
Ah, the simple life of idiots. :p

For any Sox fans who are amateur statheads, I suggest you read 'Mind Game' from the writers of Baseball Prospectus. I just finished it, its about the 2004 season (and some backstory of course) from mainly a statistical point of view. Pretty interesting read and, of course, re-living the 2004 season always brings a smile.

What's the Jack Fisher story? Did you mean Jack Hamilton?

Oops. It was Hamilton, huh?
Always seem to get those two confused. I recall Fisher as a Met but believe he started eith the Os, right?
And Hamilton was an Angel when he beaned Tony C, right?
Thanks.

Seven runs, two earned. Yikes.
You can't give a lineup like the Sox (of the Yankees for that matter) extra outs to work with.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Bernie suspended after that stunt.
kind of surprised to see him do something like that. The calls may have been questionable, but that was a pretty weak thing to do.
