Make that a tie game.

Becket and Timlin threw too many good pitches up and in middle of plate. That's why Toronto scares me with their offense. Timlin now being yanked with 2 men on 2 outs. Tied 6-6 bottom of 8th.

First pitch of the 8th? That was intentional. Beckett got a little too fired up and felt like he had to prove he was a real member of the Sox in my opinion. Bad move by him. This is where I want Schilling to talk to him. This would be a "crushing" loss.

I really dislike the Blue Jays and Vernon Wells.

Yup, he got too keyed up. Got too careless with the hit batter, then the pitches he threw were too good for HR's.

Previous to that, Youkilis swung at ball 4 with the bases juiced.

Nice pitch by Papelbon, jams Wells to make him pop up to short.

Papelbon's day as a starter will come, but right now he's too **** valuable in the 'pen.

Win this game!

God Rudy Seanez is terrible.

Maybe next time Seanez can just place it on a tee for him.

Varitek is lined up on the outsdie corner and Seanez throws it right down the middle of the plate. Just awful.

3 things:

1) Foulke struck Glaus out. That was right down the middle of the plate. Why did the strike zone, which was big all night, suddenly shrink to nothing?

2) Why did Tito pull Foulke right then? Would he have pulled him if the pitch was called correctly? No. So why did he pull him then?

3) Rudy Seanez sucks

NESN had a mic on the mound last night. Through a connection, I got to hear this exchange from the game last night:

"Hey Foulky, this game's been going on a while, and we're all tired and want to get some rest. You gotta runner on first - whadda ya think about just hitting three batters and getting the hell outta here?"
"Um, I'd get kicked out after 2, and probably suspended."
"Yeah...alright, we'll just bring in Seanez."

Foulke did not deserve to be tagged with that loss. That just sucks. He was asterisked when Seanez gave up that double, and he has every right to be. I didn't see his whole outing, but he seems to be pitching pretty well.

Foulke definitely struck out Glaus, but the home plate ump was terribly inconsistant all night, so no surprise there. Why Tito pulled Foulke, who knows, but I was ready to turn the TV off as soon as I saw Seanez coming in. I should have.

Timlin's really starting to worry me, too. He just hasn't been sharp this season, and last night it really hurt the club.

I'm not liking the DiNardo-Halladay matchup...

I'm not liking the DiNardo-Halladay matchup...I don't either -- which probably means they'll win. At the bare minimum, he DiNardo needs to give us innings.

Lead's now half a game.

Moving on: Lowell has the day off, Youks starting at 3rd. Snow isn't looking very good out there, even defensively. Lowell's error should have been caught by Snow, it was right at him. Cora playing short.

Bard catching DiNardo. I wonder if this is the beginning of Tek catching Wakefield now. Bard's getting better at stopping the knuckler, but still not very good.

I think it's time for Al Nipper to take a suitcase full of money to Roger Clemens.

I know people still disagree, but I didn't like the Arroyo trade at the time and I still don't. It could go down as one of the worst trade in Epstein's short tenure in my opinion.

Or God forbid a catcher play a day game after a night game

It's definitely a positive in the long run, but certainly not paying short-term dividends.

Settle down slappy. There's been a lot of talk about switching it up lately.

He does, but much bigger.

1. I don't see it that way. I'd rather have a versatile pitcher on the cheap than a spare part outfielder. I hope Pena develops into a quality major leaguer, but I'm not holding my breath.

2. That's not my point. My point is you're going against Roy Halladay with Lenny DiNardo on the mound. I know it's a long season, but you just suffered a bad loss and having Tek out there helps a lot more than Bard.

This series was going really well until Beckett hit Aaron Hill.

Yes, Timlin is not sharp and Seanez is way beyond bad, but Beckett had a four-run lead needing six outs (working on only 80 pitches) and coughed up three in a third of an inning before getting yanked. That killed us.

Well, looking on the bright side, at least Halladay is out of the game. 9 more outs against a bullpen already weary from last night.

My point is you're going against Roy Halladay with Lenny DiNardo on the mound. Against this lineup, I wouldn't feel any better about Arroyo's junk-balling. You're going to get bad matchups all season long, things don't usually line up the way you want them to, its the same reason you'll get Beckett against Kyle Lohse or Schilling against Bruce Chen at some point.
