Let's hope that Nip is a better pitching coach his second time around.
In a season w/ question marks that needs some good luck this isn't what I'd refer to as a fortunate beginning.

BP's top 50 prospects (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=4774).
Boston notes:
11. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
36. Jonathan Papelbon, RHP
45. Craig Hansen, RHRP
Jon Lester, LHP (honorable mention)
Former Boston guys:
7. Andy Marte, 3B, Cleveland
Hanley Ramirez, SS, Florida (honorable mention)
Interesting to see how much Pedroia shot up, and how much Hanley Ramirez dropped. Also, why's Jon Lester so low? AA Pitcher of the Year last year?

As a rule of thumb, BP sucks at prospect analysis.

Absolutely worth a read:

God I hate our media.
I agree one hundred percent. I'm starting to think that the only decent writer is Bob Ryan. I hate Shaugnessy, Buckley is okay (but he somehow thought the Mayor's Cup was a TOURNAMENT!), Callahan is too cutesy, and those are the ones I remember. I can't stand the talking heads on NESN and Fox New England and I won't bore you with my feelings on WEEI. :p

I can't stand Ryan either. Seriously, the only decent baseball writers are Tony Maz (sometimes) and Sean (Mr. Monotone) McAdam.

I also like Rob Bradford, and Chris Snow has potential.

Paging JohnB, Paging JohnB: Keith Foulke (http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=128551&format=text) has been taking injections in his knees this spring.
Not a good development.

Manny being Manny (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/)
Sounds like what you'd expect to hear. He'll show up and do his job every day. He doesn't sound thrilled to be here, but I expect to see the same effort we've seen out of him each year he's been here, including some sort of pre-trade deadline siesta. I'll admit, he was very candid in his quotes. It was interesting to read that he thinks about his place in baseball history.

What do you have against WEEI? I mean, where else are you going to hear fans compare Manny to T.O. and have no one defend Manny?

Um, ok. That's odd.
So Manny's there, Wells is staying... all's well in paradise?

Does anyone know where I can follow the game against Australia that's going on right now? I checked redsox.com, espn.com, and mlb.com - and I can get at most a score, but no gamecast, updating box score, etc. - any place else it might be?

If I knew, I'd be watching it and not on here. Sorry.

I think that's fantastic news. Keeping Wells is certainly better than anything we likely would've received in return for him. Schill, Wells, Beckett, Wake, plus Arroyo or Clement is a very nice rotation. All are threats to win 15+ games. One of Clement or Bronson will more than likely be moved, barring some sort of injury on the Sox staff (or maybe Wells starts the season on the DL). That is some excellent depth.
I would say that this point, Paps is almost definitely starting in the pen. I have no problem with that as long as he gets regular work, which he should. It's still early, but Riske and Seanez had some shaky performances this weekend. It would be nice to see them get on track. I have my reservations about Seanez.

Great news about Wells. I wasn't expecting him to come back this year, so now the rotation is even deeper and you can never have too much pitching.

I skipped the morning show today. What are the odds that the Brothers Nine Hole spent the entire morning whining about the liberals and the academy awards? :p

You got it! A rap group won Best Song, so that gave them a few hours of material right there.
