heh. yep we cant all have wakefield, wells, clement and dinardo at the end of the rotation. I'll stick with chacon, small, wang, wright and pavano.

At least you listed Small and Wang in the right order.
Take it easy, King Solomon. This ain't SOSH.

not for anything, but have you seen the infield? 3 washed up vets, and 2 glorified second basemen who cant hit. None of them are very permanent. Some of those young arms are going to have to be traded to field the other 9 positions.
I like Crisp alot, but I have my doubts about Stern, Mohr, and Pena becoming everyday outfielders, let alone excellent ones. If they had that much potential they wouldnt all be on their 3rd team by now. I guess I could see Pena becoming the next manny (not like you need defensive skills to stand in left at fenway)
I agree with the doubts about stern/mohr being excellent as hitters, I should've specified that I was thinking defensively. Pena may have the ability to be something similiar to manny, albeit on a much lower level, if he learns to watch the strike zone and can handle left field. Coco crisp and adam stern in CF/RF will cut down on a lot of issues defensively that the sox have had. They are obviously moving to a pitching/defense oriented team. As far as the infield Youkilis is either the 1st/3rd basemen for the next few years and they have pedroia as at least the 2nd basemen, if not the ss. Remember that the sox also have 5 of the first 100 picks in the draft this year and that infield prospects (1b/2b especially) develop much quicker than p/ss/of in general. I agree that the infield this year is not very permanent, but with a lot of young talent locked up for cheap it's easy to "overpay" for some veterans at key positions for short term solutions.

Clement pitched well tonight. Timlin just couldn't get the job done.
Edit: I expect members of RSN on USCHO to complain about Clement's performance tonight.

Wow, what a finish.
Remy's right: not a good risk to take in that situation. But he made the play.

I saw 8 innings in portland and 2 in Boston, a good night.
EDGAH! is the ****, and Chris Smith took a no-no into the 7th. New Britain hasnt scored a run in 3 games... More later.

I have to say -- no matter what Papelbon had to go through tonight, he was downright NASTY. That splitter was cutting down as if there was a string pulling it down to earth. One one of the pitches I just said outloud, "Holy ****! How'd he do that?!?"

I'll stick with small, wang
you do that.
it's all about pitching. you know that by now.
right now nobody can argue schilling and beckett are better than johnson and mussina.
the sox are better positioned for success in the postseason, but they still have some flaws (backend of rotation and bottom third of lineup) to work on during this long regular season.

Did he have face paint on?
better question is did he sprint to the mound?
And since there are no ropes...what did he shake like a madman?

Forgive me, but in my early morning stupor I first thought of the Patty Smyth song "The Warrior".
Announcer: "Now pitching for the Red Sox, Jonathan Papelbon"
(In Background): "Shoot at the walls of heartache, bang bang! I am the warrior!"
Not that that wouldn't be sweet. :D

Yeah, I don't know how Crawford hit the ball he did. 9 out of 10 times, that's strike three and the ballgame.

Well, I don't know how it would end the ballgame with 1 out and no one on. ;)
Anyways, it was nice to see Papelbon work his way out of a jam, sorta. Amazing ballsy catch by Stern! Hopefully they go way up the next couple of games and allow Papelbon a few days off.
Also, good to see the bats come alive when they needed. Granted it was against the vaunted Tampa Bay bullpen, but still.
10 - 4. So far, so good. Keep it up boys.
I wonder if Foulke gets a chance at a save if that situation comes up tonight after all the pitches Papelbon threw.
And Timlin allows another inherited runner to score. It's becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy at this point.
