What's screwed up my calculations for the rotation is Papelbon as closer. With him being so good in that role right now, its tough to take him out. However, that depletes the starting rotation depth that I was expecting.

My concern going into the season... why they didn't get a closer to replace Foulke is mind boggling... The depth everyone claimed they had is something I never saw for all of the reasons they don't have it now.

Now with only two solid starters the team is forced to rely on some questionable guys to pull them through.

You can say that again!

IMO this will fall on Clement, because Wake gets roughed up at the start and end of the year when his knuckleball doesn't float and Wells will be up and down all year with injuries as you'd expect from a 43 year old, 500 lb. pitcher. Scary as this may sound, but Clement needs to put up like 15-16 wins this year

And the tooth fairy needs to bring my daughter a cool million next time she loses a tooth... FAT CHANCE - but thanks for the monday morning laugh!

unless either 1) Foulke does reclaim the closer role thus sending Papelbon into the rotation, or 2) Clemens comes on board and the Sox can start printing off playoff tickets already....

Yeah... I think both very unlikely and #1 completely hopeless... My prediction... eventually they try #1 and Foulke folds w/ the added pressure.

Nixon hitting 5th, Stern in CF hitting 9th, Cora at SS hitting 8th. I hope Nixon's ok. Because, without Manny hitting right now, they need all the bats they can get.

Me thinks they may need 6-8+ runs w/ DiNardo in there... I hope I'm wrong but at least they're up against Meche to make it plausible (with that said they'll probably pull a Ted Lilly on Meche)

Who'd be watching?

Patriot's Day games really shouldn't be scheduled against west coast teams.

Beltre is hitting .109, so we walk him and he scores. Brilliant.

I haven't seen much of the game, but DiNardo has posted a solid line so far:

5.0 IP
6 H
2 ER
1 BB
1 K

5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER on 80 pitches. Pretty good for a spot start. Could it hurt to have maybe a little faith?

It's the best they could hope for (and frankly, thank god it was against the hard hitting offensive machine called the Mariners w/ Ichiro in a slump)... and yet they're still losing.

From the moment I heard of it, I knew the Loretta for Mirabelli trade was a ridiculous steal.

Everyone knew it. Kevin Towers is a moron.

Moores is content for Towers to make crazy-stupid trades like that. Even though Barfield was ready, it didn't mean the Padres had to give up a second basemen who was poised for a great season for a guy they ended up consigning to the bench.

Especially when the Mets were having so many problems then, you have to believe the Mets could have offered something more for Loretta.
