People just remember how awful he was towards the end of last seaons, forgetting that for a time he was the only reliable starter we had last year.

Same with Foulke. Yeah, he sucked monkey balls last year, but without him we'd still be hearing "1918" chanted ad nauseum...

Well hopefully if he really has his pitches under control again, they'll be reminded because he was lights out the beginning of last season. His K/9 were much closer to his career norms during ST than what he was putting up last august/september and even then he wasn't as bad as people think except in the ChiSox game, which is what everyone remembers. I fully expect him to post somewhere around 12-16 wins, which is more than adequate for a 4/5 starter.

For those that don't pay any attention to the minor leagues, Pawtucket and Indianapolis had an interesting front-end to a doubleheader yesterday. In the minors, doubleheaders are two 7 inning games. In the first game, through six innings, no one had reached base. Both pitching staffs took no-hitters into extra innings, and the game ultimately ended 1-0 in 10.

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but it looked humorous:

The only day of the year where it was perfectly acceptable to my parents to skip school. I like Youk at the top. Not great wheels, but he gets on base.

I want to HAMMER the Blue Jays today.

Well, not a great start again for Beckett

edit: bullet dodged when Shea Hillenbrand suddenly remembers why he's not on the Red Sox anymore.

Just to let you guys know, Bronson Arroyo hit his 2nd HR of the season a moment ago against the Cubs. How many does Wily Mo Pena have? :D ;)

He has as many strikeouts as Bronson has homeruns. Christ, who saw that coming?

Nice double by Mike "Finished" Lowell to tie this one up.

edit: Stern!!!

Maybe Beckett should start warming up sooner? Awful 1st inning, amazing after that.

Or maybe he's just nervous and needs to settle down. Last week was his first start for the Sox, and today is Opening Day in Fenway.

Anyway, I think we're gonna like this guy.

Fenway 1, Wily Mo 0.

I don't think Foulke will be buying WMP dinner tonight after Wily Mo just "Canseco-ed" a fly ball over the wall for a 2 run HR.

So Trot the injury mutt gets hurt again.

And Wily Mo still can't hit. Or catch.

Foulke - that's not your fault. Keep up the good work.

It's not Foulke's fault??. I got an idea - don't give up bombs to the outfield that reach the fence and you won't have to concern yourself with outfielders dropping em. I'd say the blame can go to pitcher and outfielder.

Good pitchers give up fly balls. They should be caught. Especially when they end up in the fielder's glove.

this pena-arroyo trade has been awful. i know it's early, but nobody can defend that trade right now.

3 words:

Small. Sample. Size.

It might end up being terrible. Or it could be spectacular. We're just shy of 7 games in. Let's at least give him a legit chance. Depending on the extent of Trot's injury, Pena may get his chance sooner rather than later.

You're right though, it's not starting out all that well...

Watch me:

Pena's a very young power hitter with Major League experience who is a perfect platoon partner with Trot and a possible replacement.

Arroyo is a versatile, yet mediocre pitcher who had no place on the team.

I'd do that trade 100 times out of 100, it was that much of a no-brainer. Nothing against Bronson, I wish him well, but I'd rather have the 24-year-old with 40-HR potential.

Papelbon has 4 saves now. 0.00 ERA, .062 OBA, 5 K, 0 BB, 16 AB.

Talk about "so far, so good". :D

5-3 Sox (F). 6-1 is not a bad way to start the season! :)
