It's amazing what has happened to Foulke. The Sox wouldn't have won the WS without him and now he might be losing his job as closer. I just hope he can have a decent year and contribute out of the pen.

I remember a piece a season or two ago when Foulke said he'd always like to be a starter, which I suppose could be a possibility

Sure... he could battle Oil Can Boyd for a starting position in the International League in a few years after continuing to prove he's done in the bigs.

Maybe the worst performance you will ever see from a starting pitcher.

And reliever(s). At least they won it...

Granted Clement had a poor 7th inning, but if he throws the ball like he did tonight consistently (I know that's a big if), the Sox will be in very good shape.

Well, if anyone has bullpen worries, maybe there's help on the farm. Four hitless innings for the PawSox bullpen tonight, and the starter (Alvarez) only gave up two in five innings.
Alvarez was sharp. Both runs were his only 2 hits. Homers that were line drives and barely cleared the wall (Calloway almost had one of them).
Meredith mowed down the side to, he looked great. I left after that.

Tough outing for David Wells last night in Pawtucket. Indianapolis has some guys that can hit, for sure, but shouldn't have been raking like that on a major league veteran. The thing that concerns me about the start, because anyone can have a tough outing, is the three walks and one hit batter for the generally pinpoint Wells.

Another fantastic start from Schilling.
First time through the rotation, no real complaints. Wake, we know, on any given day can get shelled if that knuckler doesn't flutter, and come back the next start and two-hit someone. Clement looked strong until the seventh, Beckett looked great, as expected, and now Schill with a second strong outing.

Nice to see a better outing from Timlin and another great close by Papelbon tonight. Winning one-run games consistently can be the difference between going to the playoffs and not going.

Great win last night. The pitching has, mostly, been very good. Hopefully it will keep up.
Light hitting lineup today. Coco's out with a hand injury (?), with Stern leading off. Since TIMMAY! is pitching, Bard is catching. J.T. Snow playing 1st, Youks getting the day off. Hopefully bard caught 57687534687 knuckleballs in practice and will fare better this time...
Really, Tek probably would have gotten today off (day game after a "night" game). I'm surprised Youks is out, considering how well he's been hitting.

Well, maybe use Foulke to setup today? That way you get him some high impact innings, with Papelbon as a safety net? I wouldn't be against this. We need Foulke to be ... Foulke in order to compete for a WS this year. He needs to be worked back in. This might be a good way to do it, with less risk than pitching him in the 9th. Plus they have a few run cushion.
edit: Miguel Tejada is really good. Wow.

so we've seen timlin in the 7th and 8th, foulke in the 8th and 9th, and papelbon in the 9th
it will be very interesting to see how this plays out

A little scary, but Papelbon came through. First sweep of the year. 5 - 1. TIMMAY! gets his first win with a nice 6 inning 1 run performance.
Day off tomorrow, Beckett for the home opener against the Jays on Tuesday. Let's keep it up!!!
