Stealing from Todd on the men's board...........

--- #1/#2 Seed Lock - 36 (Can't be caught by #3 PC) ---
--- In - 28 (Can't be caught by bottom 4) ---
BC 25 - 37 [1-5]
UNH 19 - 39 [1-7]
PC 16 - 36 [1-8]
UC 14 - 30 [1-8]
UMO 12 - 28 [1-8]
BU 12 - 22 [2-8]
NU 7 - 17 [3-8]
UVM 3 - 19 [2-8]
--- Out - 14 (Can't catch #4 UC) ---

Nobody has locked up a playoff spot yet, although BC is the closest to that mark. Every team can still make the playoffs, although NU cannot get one of the top two seeds.

What amazes me is BC's OOC record. They're in 1st in HE but problems with OOC teams.

I though last year BC had one of the best powerplay records in the country. What is happening this year? It will be interesting to see how they do against PC and UNH this time around. See you all at UNH today, it will be the first of 3 great games.

I use UMO, as it specifies Orono, even though that should be obvious.

After today.......

--- #1/#2 Seed Lock - 34 (Can't be caught by #3 PC) ---
--- In - 28 (Can't be caught by bottom 4) ---
BC 25 - 37 [1-5]
UNH 21 - 39 [1-6]
PC 16 - 34 [1-7]
UC 16 - 30 [1-7]
UMO 12 - 28 [1-8]
BU 12 - 22 [2-8]
UVM 3 - 19 [3-8]
--- Out - 16 (Can't catch #4 UC) ---
NU 7 - 15 [5-8]

Nobody has guaranteed themselves a playoff berth yet, but Northeastern is officially out of the hunt.

Thanks the UNH win today, UVM cannot get one of the top two seeds.

But it's not UMO and hasn't been for about 20 years. You couldn't buy a UMO shirt if you wanted to.

UM
UMaine
Maine
The University of Maine

Should we call UNH.....UNHD?

Generally, I follow the mens team as the women have been terrible for years until recently. I took my daughter to see them a couple of times this year but have not had the time to go even if the games are free at Conte. My daughter is new to hockey and learning, this is her 3rd year as a Mite and getting better. Also, she plays on a under 12-girls team but I feel she is getting limited learning experiences from the way the team is run and the makeup of her girls team. I thought she might enjoy watching the women and learn something from watching.

Well with all the teeth gnashing ( hence the toothless fanbase on both sides!) that the Black Bear & WildCat faithful generate towards one another during our long winters, it seems only fitting that we should find something innocuous to debate....
I prefer just plain ol "Maine". Rolls off the tongue and gums a tad bit easier.
"Da Bears" and "Da Cats" is another easy one.
Thankfully, ( as Sandie points out ) we don't have the flagship state universities adding campus designations around the country or we'd have some real gum twisters- the Badgers of UWM, or the Sioux of UNDGF, or how about the Gophers of UMTC. UGGH!

Onto the league and hey-how about dem Bears!! It'll be interesting to watch the final few weeks since Maine really controls it's destiny having finished with "Da Cats" and with some great upcoming head to head weekends with UConn, BU and BC. I like Maine's chances of vaulting into the top four. With some very winnable series at home ( vs UVM & BC ) it'll be key that they do some damage on the road versus the Huskies. That series could either jump them into prime position, or in a worst case scenario, put them precariously close to being on the outside looking in. My bet is they at least split and even though UConn can be tough at home, I wouldn't be shocked to see Maine sweep. They are playing great right now and seem to be on a huge upswing.
It's great for the league to have Da Bears really making a move. Looking ahead, the league is really poised to have some fun and tight seasons. Maine, BC and BU are really adding to the fun and excitement and I can only see that improving. Good stuff. Keep cheering them on Sandie!

Great post. Couldn't agree more. UConn has a very tough schedule coming up and Maine holds it's destiny in it own hands this weekend. But, I was just wondering your opinion on the league in general. BC sits atop the league and has really struggled out of conference. There GF and GA in league are comparable. Providence is struggling as of late and UVM, UConn, NE and BU and Maine have not been consistant. UNH has obviously had a great season thus far and luckily for them have played a very tough out of conference schedule. There only loss in league is to BC which came early in the season in OT. While I do think BC is much improved, I look at the league in general and I am just not impressed. UNH is VERY IMPRESSIVE. Looking at their statistics they certainly have some impressive numbers. GF and GA and +- just to name a few. Not a team in league can compare to those numbers and yet it will all come down to one game in the end. I do think the league will get better in the coming years with BU and BC adding strong recruits, but UNH seems to be in a league of their own looking at the statistics. It seems to me that a team like UNH has to go out and work extra hard to find those out of conference games in ECAC or WCHA to really challenge them as a team.

My .02$ about the league, is give it time. Not alot mind you. BC & BU are going to come on alot faster than many realize. Both are recruiting well and will continue to gain on non conference opponents. ( as well as in conference.) Maine needs another class or two, but they'll do the same. UVM is a non factor for the simple reason their administration won't ante up and give the team enough scholarship money to even compete. That hurts the league, but IMHO won't be an issue for the league given that the above schools are on a major rise. Just like the WCHA has No Dakota right now, Hockey East can afford a UVM, even though it's an unfortunate situation. UVM could be a very competitive program with support. PC will hang tough, but they have to be hearing footsteps. UConn is young this year and I'd expect them to remain competitive. It remains to be seen if they'll keep up with BC, BU and Maine on the recruiting trail. NU has to get better and hopefully they will.
Two years from now I'd expect the loop to look more like the WCHA right now, with 3 or 4 teams that are a threat on the national scene.

They already have this season. The problem is they both started from scratch, BU literally, and BC practically (i.e. in its 2nd year of Mutch recruits).

Looking at teams, I'd say UNH, BC, Maine, and BU have all exceeded my expectations, UConn and Providence have met my expectations (their struggles could be expected given who they graduated), while Vermont and Northeastern have fallen short of what were already low expectations. So I'd say the conference is headed in the right direction overall, even though only UNH is top 10 team this season.

This league has a chance to be the premiere league in women's college hockey within 5 years IF they can learn to work with each other in landing the top recruits in North America,.....there appears to be too many egos within the coaching fraternity for this to happen, and it's absolutely juvenile on their part,.....this league has the almost perfect situation with schools that have reasonable admissions policies and programs for every type of student/athlete,.....they have a men's league that has been arguably the best in college hockey over the past 8-10 years,.....their travel (within conference) is far from "crazy" and even when they travel 4 or 5 hours, they sit in the same town for 2 games and don't have to packup and move to the next town/city, after game 1 of a weekend of hockey,.....the "weaker" teams will get better, IF, resources are added to their programs, but it starts with the idea that teams want to knock each other's block off in competition, but when the game's over, they work together to promote the conference as one with great diversity in it's acadmic oppportunities and great hockey,.....it's exciting to think what a thrill it could be to play in a conference where everybody doesn't win all the time, but everybody has a "winning" program,.....

Camman, I find what you say very interesting, I agree wholeheartedly about the hockey east women's league becoming a strong force within the next 5 years. Could you please elaborate on what you said regarding the coaches and their egos. I have heard some scuttlebutt out there regarding this exact topic. I think it would make a great topic of discussion, interesting.
