View Full Version : Question of the week oversight

As for this week's question, about most valuable freshmen, I would have liked to vote for Princeton's Annie Greenwood, but she was not among the choices, nor was there an "other" category. She is tied for seventh in the DI for goals scored, and has scored almost one quarter of Princeton's goals this season. I imagine that's an oversight on the question's creator.

Prolly no way to include all who are worthy but I'll have to add / suggest this netminder who also belongs in my opinion. Particularly in light of how important solid goaltending has been for Minnesota thus far.

Anyway, many worthy candidates listed, their presence on the list justified and deserving of votes.

With Keady leaving for a shot at the Olympic team, Princeton needed someone to score some more goals and Annie has already matched Keady's 2004-05 total.

What happened to Chartier, I thought she was supposed to be the top goaler there for the gophers?

She's still very much in the mix and I expect will get regular starts, very possibly the majority of starts. She and Gagnon were away with the Canadian U22 team for a short time recently. In her absence, and in virtually every start Hanlon has gotten she has played extremely well.

There have been games where the entire Gopher team has been shaky. Chartier has had games where she's given up several goals, but at times, she has had a lot of help. Like the rest, I'm sure she hopes to be more consistant down the stretch.

The real story in net has been that Hanlon has played very, very well. As of now, the two are splitting the starts, but Hanlon is getting the first start of the weekend, which at Minnesota, usually means that netminder is either regarded as the top or tied for the top.

What a surprise that UMD has the oldest freshman player once again. Is it a surprise that she is from Europe? Lanzl is 22 now and will be 23 when she returns from the Olympics. Is she eligible for consideration? That's like the question about Japanese baseball players being eligible for the rookie of the year awards, after having played in Japan for years before arriving in MLB in the States.

Since this is just a USCHO online poll, and a player has freshman status their first season of NCAA hockey, you can include Lanzl. You notice how different UMD is when Lanzl's away.

Im just wondering who were Hanlon's opponents?

I'd have to say of those choice offered tho, Carson Duggan, hands down. Tied for 2nd in overall scoring, and game winners. She is a great finisher and a great down low player. Credit should also be given to her linemates, however she does possess a great scoring touch.
