Colgate visits UNH tonight.
I noticed Colgate was only 3 points out of first place with 2 games in hand on the leaders in the ECAC. They have good wins over Yale and Brown and bad losses at the hands of RPI, Wayne State, and Niagara. Will they put up a good battle against UNH on the big sheet tonight?
(yes I did edit the title because I had '05 at the end :))

Like UNH's Garland and Craig, Colgate's Tara French and Becky Irvine are with the Canadian Under-22 team in Ravensburg, Germany for the Air Canada Cup. Colgate already has a smaller and thinner roster so I wouldn't expect the Wildcats to have much difficulty.

I have to agree with you, that it might be a long 60 minutes for Colgate,.....it's has to be challenging enough when you're at full strength traveling to Durham, but to be short two of your top 5 hockey players must be nerve wracking,.....add to that the idea playing on the pond, a very big advantage for UNH starting with the simple art of line changes,.....this type of game MAY become lopsided; let's hope not,.....

And UNH can say hello again to Stephanie Jones, who is an assistant with the Colgate team.

didn't get the official total, but unofficially on the scoreboard the shots were 45-8 at the end of the game, and that pretty much told the story.
Good to see Jackie Wedster back out there, her first game of the season, and she was flying. Add Garland and Craig back into the mix, and look out.
Looking forward to the second half...

I am very impressed with the puck movement this team has. They have continued to improved in all aspects of their game this year. I am starting to see poise with grit mixed in and that is very impressive. I also noticed a difference in the teams overall speed which makes them even more dangerous. I hope this team can continue to carry this play as the season rolls on. The shot differential this year vs. last is amazing and I think Bourdon has adjusted well to that. I also think this team takes one game at a time and adjusts their play accordingly which is a significant improvement from the very beginning of the season and a great job by the coaching staff.

The thing that literally "showed" how the game went, was to look at the condition of the ice. Around the middle of the 2nd, looking down the ice, the Colgate defensive zone looked like you'd expect at the end of the period. The UNH end, meanwhile, looked like it does after Wild E. Cat skates around for a couple minutes. The sharp contrast showed perfectly how well UNH was able to control the puck.

what did colgate take out of that game? that they were on the PK with 5 players, got so few shots on their several PP attempts, couldnt even clear it from the zone with an icing attempt? UNH had as many goals as colgate shots. Not a weak link on that UNH squad who is playing mclosky's system very well right now. Their passing in the offesnive zone looks good, and this team can pass or skate it out of their zone just as well.
I hope none of the girls read this and get all cocky and start losing games. that would be bad.

IMO UNH continues to be the odds on favorite to win it all. For me the real question will be how long does this last. They really are a young team. That plus the fact that the coach will not let this team rest on past success has the making of one very long run.

My only concern for the future, is the discrepancy between class sizes. The senior and freshman classes are pretty small, at least compared to the SO and JR. Further, the incoming freshman class is smaller (if you count McLaughlin) than this year's. It shouldn't be an issue next year, but the year after, they lose Hekle, Caleo, Clement, Wedster, in addition to both Bourdon and Busa. I don't think getting into a cycle of NEEDING two consecutive, big recruiting classes every couple years is preferable.

Good point! I still think they may have a run for a couple of years but when you stack IMHO, you can run into problems for certain years as you stated.
