All the US could manage was 1 goal on Finland in a 1-0 win. They should have netted more than that.

Hockey Canada showing a 3 to 1 result for Canada over Sweden. Shots an overwhelming 54 to 14, Martin showed much better than the 11 to 0 loss just last week in Sweden.

Is there a web site for USA? I don't speak enough Italian to figure out their site. I'm looking for the scoresheet info on todays game. Canada has their info up, where's ours?

This is on the usahockey website
Looks like it was a pretty tight game, as the US only got off 25 shots.
Another low score - Canada 3, Finland 1. Sarah Vaillancourt and Cherie Piper each scored a goal. Shots were 36-12, Canada.

Looks like Sweden and Finland are not teams to take lightly; an upset could be in the making for US or Canada if they are not on their toes. Sweden came back from an 11-0 thumping in exhibition play with Canada to a close 3-1 game against Canada in the tournament and Finland was real close too. Lots of shots on goal by Canada but oh what an impact a goaltender can make in a game! (practice makes perfect and those goalies are getting lots of practice). When it is crunch time though, I think you will see Canada putting more quality shots on the net and it will translate on the scoreboard.
It's nice to see a better pool of competition; makes for a more interesting dynamic in a tournament like this. Should be interesting!

Yeah, but you can't attribute the improvement primarily to goaltending... Canada had 50+ shots in the 11-0 game, so 36 was a huge reduction from that. This is overgeneralizing too, but 36 is probably a nice number of shots for goalies to have in a game, while <20 or 50+ goalies will likely feel under / over worked.

I agree that goaltending alone wasn't the total factor in the close games, but it must have been pretty good to stop all those shots. The fact remains that Canada could only muster 3 goals in 60 minutes of play against either Sweden or Finland, so you have to wonder about 1) the quality of those shots and 2) the ability of the goaltenders facing those shots. Number of shots doesn't tell the whole story in a game. They must be quality shots to count on the scoreboard.

USA 3, Sweden 0; Stephens x 2, Ruggiero
Says 4,000+ at the game. Not too bad.*
* That is my opinion, it is not stated as fact. One should not infer from said opinion that I believe that since attendance is better it Italy, Italy is more deserving of hosting games and therefore all future USA home games should be played in Italy.

Is the USA holding out? What's going on? Does the USA have time between now and February to get this team in a position to beat everyone in Italy and win the gold? Does anyone see any big changes being made? Was it goaltending? Why aren't we scoring goals? Did everyone play? Will Smith call up former players, college players, will there be another "camp" somehow prior to January when the final roster has to be made? I'm getting nervous now. Will Cammi be called? How about Shelley? Anyway, I hope they are staying in shape...............just in case!!!!

word is that christy king and julie chu were out of the usa/canada due to possible injuries sustained in the game against sweden ... so that could be a partial reason for the usa's loss.

They played in the 6-0 drubbing of the USA by Canada in Saskatchewan and it didn't make any difference then so why should it now? This team is sorely lacking in leadership. The sooner that Granato and Looney are recalled to this team the better.

There has been a lot of criticism of the US team but did anyone think that Team Canada is just playing great? They are well prepared, experienced and determined. Maybe instead of putting Team US down, credit should be given to Team Canada (just a more positive spin on the situation). The US are probably doing as well as they can; Team Canada is just the better team.

The final game is on Saturday and not tomorrow, so don't be searching for a result tomorrow!
Another possible problem with the psyche of the US team may be the goaltending, apparently two really soft goals in today's game. I'm sure everyone can think of teams that play in front of goalies they are not totally comfortable with and how it can impact their play. On the other hand, team Canada can play in front of three goalies they are totally secure with having in net. I know Gunn had the win in Sweden but hasn't elevated her game back to that level this time around.
