Tonight was a fun game to watch. The Badgers completely dominated the first period, with Wisconsin having three goals, versus the Huskies only having four shots on goal. St. Jaques made some excellent saves, but let one in maybe she shouldn't have.

Second period was when the Huskies got physical, and they made it work. They actually scored a goal- it looked like from the reply that Horras thought she had it froze, but the puck was loose and a Husky slammed it home. They started hauling down the Badgers from behind on breakaways, taking the penalty. They took quite a few throughout the game, as a quick look at collegehockeystats will attest. The game started to get chippy.

The third period was just plain brutal. There was one outright shoving matchin front of the Badger net with both players tossed in the sin in for unsportsmanlike.

Mathews for the Badgers left with what looked like a knee injury after a big pile up on the ice. The Badgers only carry six defensemen, so this is obviously not good.

Later in the period, a Badger got tossed in after a shoving match. Play resumed for a few seconds, and then two more Badgers got tossed in, nobody saw the altercation, but one was for a five minute cross check. It looked line the ref either warned or told the St. Cloud bench something shortly before that- anyone else there have an idea of what went on?

So with three Badgers in the box, St. Cloud went on an extended power play. It looked pretty bad, but Sara Bauer turned in one heck of a play. She got the puck, split the defenders, and was streaking in on the net. Oonincx hauled her down from behind, and the zebra herd awarded Sara a penalty shot. St. Jaques managed to close off the left side, but still, forcing a penalty shot when playing 5x3 is pretty amazing. The Badgers pretty much held them off during the initial two advantage, but eventually there was a Husky power play goal.

The Badgers got another player back, and were down only one player, score 4-2 Badgers. The Huskies pulled St. Jacques in the last minute, but Jinelle Zaugg got the puck in center ice, managed to get barely accross the blue line (if even that far) and put the puck into the empty net.

In all, an extremely hard faught game, well played, although I don't think the two teams are very happy with each other- it got pretty nasty out therelate in the second and all of the third, lots of elbows, tripping, and hooking, and some pretty good hitting and shoving. I think whoever is the best conditioned team, who can maintain discipline, will carry the day tommorow. The Badgers losing a defender might be rough.
