Hekle, Hitchcock, Zerafa and Garland for UNH
Law scored for Maine
scratch that, it was wright-ward, not Garland who scored.

.by the way Camman... If you actually think that Maine was "nothing special"
until Paul Kariya arrived...check their record books..
You might find that some of the names already in Orono... Like Jean Yves Roy,
Jim Montgomery ( remember him...he won this little trophy called the Hobey)
Scott Pellerin, Cal Ingraham, Garth Snow, Mike Dunham...etc...might have had a bit to do with their rise to prominence..
In Kariya's class there were also these two twins named Ferraro...not bad...
But yeah, Kariya was the only reason Shawn's team was dominant...
Kariya played two years in Orono...that's it.. but I'm sure if you spoke with Grant...Paul was the only reason they rose to top...
Take out a big cup of coffee...swirl it as you hold it under your nose...and take a whiff...of the joe...as they say..

Did you pick up the scorers for both teams ?

Wingsdad11...If you don't know about the website... www.collegehockeystats.com, it is there that you can check all stats after a game has been played. It lists just about anything you want to know that happened. The bold faced names on the roster are the starters for that particular game. The website is fun to look at, you can see all games played.

Any thoughts or predictions about the UNH - Niagara game tonight?
I have a feeling, Coach McCloskey may juggle up the lines...
however; I don’t think there will be any surprises about the outcome…

Agree with your overall point on Maine, but a small correction, Pellerin won the Hobey, not Montgomery.

Also, McCloskey joined UNH in 92, not 91.;) You overstate the situation at UNH -- UNH was not as bleak in the 80s as you portray. The slip was about 3 years (83-86), and the rebuild was in full swing under Kullen starting in 87, even though it took a couple of years to show in the W/L records. (His first two class brought aboard four NHLers in Kevin Dean, Chris Winnes, Adrian Plavsic and Scott Morrow and an All American Amodeo).

For $10, it appears to be possible to get a Teamline feed from Niagara.

OOp...s my bad....they had too many candidates in those days
Pellerin was in '02 and Kariya beat out Montgomery in '03...thanks...for the correction.

As to the situation in Durham in the 80's, while it was bleak start to finish, it was certainly more than a 3 year slip..
The run from the mid 60's when Snively created a "campus" facility and allowed UNH hockey under Rube and then Charlie to build a nice little power,
UNH began fading....
79-80 12-18
80-81 19-13
81-82 22-14
82-83 22-11-2
83-84 20-17-1
84-85 16-26-1
85-86 5-29-3
86-87 8-27-3
87-88 7-20-3
88-89 12-22
89-90 17-17

That's 11 seasons, 6 of them losing...one .500 and certainly even those winning years were a far cry from the powerhouse teams of the mid 70's..

Ironically, the point being made is that while UNH had a nice little run in the late 60's to middle/late 70's; they haven't been this hockey juggernaut with the rich NCAA tradition of a Michigan, North Dakota, Minnesota, BU...etc..

Umile and his staff raised the bar from the early 90's to present and in doing so, some seem to think that recruiting at UNH has always been on a par with other tradition rich programs.. UNH has a lot to sell, but they've smartly found a way to get it done without recruiting head to head with some of the "richer" schools who've got more selling firepower... that's a credit to those who've done the selling...ie recruiting..

Congratulations to Leah Craig for an excellent weekend!!!! HE Player of the week - Well Deserved!!!! Looks like UNH had a great weekend against Niagra but did it prepare them for Brown? Did anyone go to the weekend series in Niagra? How did the team look?

I am guessing that this is the place to post this
I am wondering if this team has a problem with a smaller ice sheet. The last few years it seems as if they do so much worse against teams they dominate at home. Yes the home team has an advantage but I would think it should not be so great. Does the big home ice hurt them? Do they have a problem on small ice? Should they change the their style of play for the smaller ice?
Also I think they play well playing as a team but some time it looks like they are a little afraid of taking the puck and just attacking the net when they get a breakaway. I think they have players that can do it but they don’t seem to as other good players do on other teams. This may be a draw back on the smaller ice in particular. Should the coach encourage some more direct attacks?
Just wondering?

While I didn't see the losses at Brown and BC, I gotta think it's something other than the size of the ice. From reading the recaps, it sounds like UNH pretty much controlled both games, even if not as dominantly as at the Whitt. It almost seems like they're overconfident after the easy win at home, and are just sort of coasting on the back end of the weekend. So while they're talented enough to still carry play, it results in lapses that they didn't have at home.

I don't think it's lapses as much as it's how fast things happen on the smaller sheet. If UNH gets in trouble on the big rink they have time to react and recover. They must react and recover quicker on the smaller sheet. They
are capable. It just means working harder.

The rink thing will straighten itself out with a few more games on the road,.....losing games that are within the grasp sometimes just happens,.....the first place a team must look is in the preparation area for the 2nd round of battle,.....it must be puzzling to all the UNH fans to see this team dominate on day 1 and then play (for what ever reason) quite abit different on day 2,.....the coaching staff may also be miffed, but somehow it has to be sorted out,.....not a good "M-O" for a team to have with these 2-game, same oppponent series that dominate the UNH schedule,.....

In the end, Paton ultimately whittled down the list from over 30 schools to New Hampshire and the University of Wisconsin, with the Wildcats winning out.
"I was happy with her choice because New Hampshire is a smaller school," said Robinson, who figures the school is one-third the size of the University of Western Ontario. "I think she will thrive there in the small-town environment that she grew up in."
