Anybody know what happened to St. Pierre? Great to see Small given a chance again....
I would guess that Kim is the sure thing for the Olympics and they are trying to test Sammi Jo and Charline Labonte for the other goalie spot.

In my opinion St. Pierre and Labonte should both be locks...

Canada has three fantastic goalies, including Sammi Jo who is playing great as well. Hard to choose here; every country should be so lucky as to have such a difficult choice.

Small leads Canada to 2 huge wins against the US and Labonte is a lock? Any reason behind this statement
I agree; Sammi Jo came out big for Canada against the US. The US outshot Canada in all periods but yet Sammi Jo held them to only 1 goal. She was definitely a huge factor in the game and definitely looks like a front runner for the Olympic Team.
still amazed

They are better goalies.
According to the official site, Canada outshot US 11 to 10 in 3RD.

The "official" site indicates US outshot Canada 15 - 9 in the first, 15 - 14 in the second and both had 10 shots in the third. Sammi Jo made a big impact with all those saves.

The official site keeps track of saves, so since Canada scored a goal, which must be on net, the shots on net would be 11.

Well Labonte performed just as well against the U.S. in the last Four Nations Cup, and that was a better U.S. team (plus Granato and more importantly, I think, Darwitz). St. Pierre should need no discussion. The way I'd look at is with her performance this week, Sami kept herself in contention, but by no means leapfrogged anyone in the pecking order.

Look at the line up that Canada used in this game, I think that the fact that Sami played both games against the US speaks volumes. She has made a statement with her play this tourney and will be tough to leave off the final roster.

Absolutely! Come on you guys out there. Sammi Jo played 120 minutes of hockey against the US and allowed only one goal in the two games!!!!! Give credit where credit is due. She has worked hard for this comeback and I for one hope she gets her reward during the Olympics; she has earned it big time.

There was meant to be no discredit to Small, and especially not to her play at Four Nations which, statistically appeared to be fantastic. But even recently I have seen St Pierre and Labonte play side by side...And while it should be mentioned that I am not THAT familiar with either of them, there were times where I could not tell them apart...which says a lot for Labonte. My earlier comment in the thread was not made just considering the two games Small played last week, but rather regarding the past performances by both St Pierre and Labonte in the past year....But I do agree, Small had a great tournament.
Here are the lines for all of the goalies this past season in the NWHL
Charline Labonte
GP MIN W L T GA GAA SOG SV SV % SO
27 1572 18 7 1 56 2.14 727 671 0.923 6
Kim St-Pierre
GP MIN W L T GA GAA SOG SV SV % SO
17 1012 3 13 1 55 3.26 686 631 0.920 1
Sami Jo Small
GP MIN W L T GA GAA SOG SV SV % SO
20 1108 12 4 3 34 1.84 516 482 0.934 5
I think for most goalies the stat means the most to them is SV% Small lead in that stat. She had a great year this past season. She was a big reason that the Aeros won the championships this past seasons. Both the NWHL and the Canadian championships.
I think that Small had the best year of all of the goalies and she looks to be continuing right where she left off.

I am giving her credit. I think my assessment was entirely fair. Entering this tournament, St. Pierre (several times) and Labonte had experience beating the U.S. in an international final, and Small did not. Now Small's done it. If she got beat like say Vogt did, I think it'd have been hard for her to make the team, regardless of her NWHL numbers, so I think it's giving her too much credit to say she's done anything more than keep herself in contention for a spot. All three have beaten the U.S. now, and I think what happens here on out matters a lot more than whatever's happened in the past.
