Does anyone know what teams and who will be playing in this tournament. I think it will be starting in the next couple of weeks.

I believe the Stanstead Tournament will be moved to Magog this year and will take place August 4-7. The Polar Bears are as usual sending the U-19 and U-16 Teams. I do not know any other teams or the schedule. If anyone knows the schedule or web site I would greatly appreciate it.

Based on a several-months-old conversation, I believe the Summer Storm, recent Chowder Cup participants, are competing. The tournament, or the camp which precedes it, hasn't had a website in previous years and, as far as I know, nothing's changed. Too bad because the tournament seems to have grown in terms of quality and prestige year by year with D1 scouts attending in abundance. Word-of-mouth seems to be the primary communications tool for promotion of the camp and the subsequent tournament, and the guy who organizes the whole thing will send a brochure/form if you're lucky enough to actually make contact with him! Possibly, he prefers to do things that way and you can't argue with success.

Wow! Interesting to see many former Assabet players going over to the PB"S!

To clarify for Icelady, nobody is "going over". The Polar Stars is not the Polar Bears. There are 6 Ct Stars, 3 Assabet, 1 Sound Shore Warrior, and 5 Polar Bears on this team. 9 of them are graduates including all 5 Polar Bears. The genesis of this was a bunch of girls who know and like each other well from festivals etc. and decided to put a team together to play a tournament before going off to college.

That is cool. Representatives from four teams coming together like that should make for some very spirited play.

1st seed, St Jeromes, 3-0
2nd seed PB Midgets, 3-0
3rd seed CT Polar Stars, 2-0-1
4th seed, ON Summer Storm, 2-1

1 v 3 - 4-2 St Jeromes on an empty net, a tight game
2 v 4 - 5-3 Summer Storm, after leading 5-0 in the 2nd

Consulation game
Polar Stars 4, PB Midgets 1 - In one of the roughest girls games I've ever seen. Too many girls who are friends playing against one another. The Polar Stars team was stacked, scary to see. All star from Assabet, PB and CT Stars.

I left before the final - it's a long drive home.

Lots of scouts, more teams than ususal (12 vs the usual 6 or 8). The touney moved froma prep school type rink to a college sized arena - a step up.

I thought the officiating was horrible at best. Very one sided and obvious. The Polar Stars were a good team short of a couple of good players to make it a better team. They should have taken the tournament but spent many minutes in the penalty box and down a man or two. That brings me to my next comment or question: I think the more physical games the girls play are more exciting to watch. I don't mean all out craziness, I mean competetive, hard-nosed hockey. Especially along the boards, in the corners and in front of the net. I also think a forward should be able to power through the defense and the defense should be able to step up on a forward. Much more exciting in my opinion. No hooking, tripping, slashing, interference, etc. Those are the calls that get missed especially in Canada were they are taught to use their sticks more. I have seen roughly 3-4 girls tournaments this summer and there have been some very exciting games where the refs have let the girls play. What I really noticed most in those games was how the level of play of each girl rose the more physical and competitve the game became. Girls have to be more aware and more aggressive in those games. I would like to see that carry over more at the college level. When I go to some of those games the girls can be too laid back. Any opinions????

Yes I would agree that in many cases games are effected by officials penalizing incidental contact and yes it does take alot of the excitement out of the game.

I would like to make a comment on your observation of the canadian players and "stick work". Canadian players are taught to use their sticks to control player movement. With players south of the border the stick tends to be used as a weapon rather than a tool - less often but far more dangerously. Perhaps this is what you see when exposed to Canadian officials.

According to Slug79 the only game that stood out as a penalty fest was the Polar Stars vs the PB Midgets - Correct me if I am wrong but are these not two US teams?

Agreed. What a great game between the Polar Stars and PB Midgets. Fast pace, physcial, and fun to watch! Say what you want but having physical play in the womens game makes it that much better, IMHO.

Regarding the officating, I was somewhat surprised at the lack of quality. Outright take downs and trips were overlooked and holding the stick called? IMHO a strange philosphy. It also looked like a big differece in calls depending on the pairings of officals.

Polar Stars looked good but lacked the team chemistry. Still there are some great players on that team.

The PB Midgets were surprising to me. Played at a high level but did seemed to get tired at the end. Looks to be many new faces. If this is the team for the year it would be interesting to keep an eye on. They only go with 4 D but they all seem to be pretty agressive. Forwards seem sharp and look to move the puck around.

All and all seems to be a good selection for next years class.
