A final wrap to Season 1 of the USCHO Game of the Week in the form of a few thank yous and some summary statistics.
First, many thanks to US College Hockey Online and Dave DeRemer in particular, for agreeing to sponsor the project and supporting it from start to finish. This was the best possible forum from which to launch the GOTW and it had the best possible people behind the scenes.
Second, a big thank you to the guest analysts. None of them received any compensation, but all of them gave up their afternoons/evenings/weekends and invariably brought great enthusiasm to the microphone. For me, meeting them, getting to know them, and working with them was THE highlight of a highlight-filled season.
Third, thanks to the schools/teams. We were fortunate to have unbelievable games, including 14 one-goal games and 8 overtime games. We were equally fortunate to have great guests (more 100 players and coaches), many of whom had to call late at night or from the bus or from the hotel to accommodate my regular work hours.
Finally, I want to thank the more than 18,000 people who tuned in at some point during the inaugural schedule. I hope the broadcasts brought you a little closer to at least one game per week, gave you a taste of some of the background/personality of the plethora of great student-athletes who make up the various programs, and made for a fun listen.
The groundwork for Season 2 is already under way and the operative word is "more." More teams, more analysts, and with your help, more listeners (can we break 20,000?). I'm working on adding a new wrinkle or two as well, but that is for the fall. Until then, I wish everyone in the women's hockey community a great offseason and welcome any feedback/suggestions for Season 2 at uschobroadcast@yahoo.com.
