Which is better

Hisey's Goal (http://www.petesvideos.com/Hisey.wmv)

or

Legg's goal (www.big-boys.com/articles/besthockey.html)

It's not on the list. 1998 Eastern Regional Finals. OT. Shorthanded. Mark Mowers. UNH defeats BU (the evil empire).

Colin Hemingway's stick-between-the-legs topshelf backhander definitely deserves to be on this list. It was against Providence, I maybe the 2/10/01 game. Definitely better than Legg's, I'd have to see it again to see how it stacks up to Hisey's that was pretty.

There's a chance I may have it on my computer, I'll check it out when I get home.

Can you get a video of it.

it was the end of the BU empire, poor Drury he played so hard that year being shaddowed every shift

Legg's goal wins for me since it was during a live game in the playoffs at a critical point. Hisey's goal is incredible but Legg could do some equally/more amazing things during non-game warm-ups if you watched him.

I'd be inclined to vote for a goal Jaromir Jagr scored a couple of years ago where he was sliding on his stomach after being tripped and batted a puck that was essentially above his head out of the air and into the net.

Well, I found the Hemingway goal on my computer (and boy, it's soooooo beautiful!). Absolutely, definitely stacks up with any Best Goal Ever nominee.

The problem is, it's an mpeg file, not a link to an internet site - and I don't know how to get one of those on this board. If anyone more technically savvy than myself knows how to get around this, let me know and I'll try to get it up for others to see.....

Not much of a contest between the two listed in the poll IMO. Hisey's was done in a skills competition, so it's a nice goal but not great.

Legg's was a ton better because:

1) was done in the playoffs (as was stated by MoFan)
2) was a goal against Minnesota, which pretty much endears him (& Michigan) to me

Legg having the balls to try this in a regular game, let alone in the playoffs, is amazing. It's incredible he didn't get knocked silly, he was fortunate to have the time & space to try that.

Tough to do, but gotta tip my hat to a Wolverine. And this goal is can always be used to tweak the infestation of Gopher fans here where I live, e.g. "How come Bonin/Spehar/Miskovich/etc. couldn't score a goal like that? I thought Minnesota had speedy, skilled forwards...."

Just an FYI, Sydney Crosby did almost the same thing that Legg did during a game in the Q. It only differed because Crosby scored from the other side of the net.

As for which goal would be better? Legg's. Not because of teams or whatever, but because of realism. Though, in the NHL, this type of goal would be hard, the Hisey goal isn't as good because it would NEVER be able to be scored in a game time situation unless it is a penalty shot.

So Legg's gets the nod from me because it's possible to accomplish in a game situation.

I think Ballard just felt bad for Hemmingway after Platt nearly killed him. At least that's what I keep telling myself. :p

Of those two, I like Hisey's better. But his wasn't in a game situation.

As for Crosby's, it was similar to Legg's. Here's a link:

Scroll down to the March 8, 2005 "Video Freatures" entry, it is #2, taking place against Québec.

Legg's goal hands down. How would you even think to do that in a game situation?

Guarantee he went back to the bench and told Red "I had that planned all the way, coach!"

Plus, it was against the Gophers, so it would've won regardless as far as I'm concerned.

It has officially turned into a plea....

Anyone know how to get an mpeg file on my computer to be viewable to everyone else?

Hemingways' goal is head and shoulders better than Legg's - IMO, everyone would agree if they saw it. :D

Hemingways' goal is head and shoulders better than Legg's - IMO, everyone would agree if they saw it. :DYou beat me to it, Greg -- saw this title and immediately thought of Hemingway's. By far the most audacious goal I know of -- once others see the mpeg, they'll understand why.

As for Legg's -- nice, but a basic lacrosse play. Doesn't rank with Hemingway's "riding the witch's broomstick" topshelf backhander. Unworldly to even conceive of, much less execute.

Just to be churlish, the post's title is completely misleading... neither is anywhere near to being the "best goal ever", if "best" includes importance. That'd go to Eruzione on Myshkin. Canadians would also nominate Paul Henserson's Canada Cup winner; Bobby Orr's flying OT Cup winner gets an honorable mention for style points alone.

And speaking of Orr, it's said he once pulled a Legg lacrosse goal himself in a practice game, but started it in his own end. Skated through two zones and around several D-men carrying the puck on his blade, before throwing it into the net (if you ever get to meet him or one of his teammates, ask for details).

And just to add pendantry to churlishness, the correct comparative form (when two are in play) is "better", not "best". :D

Thanks. Just here to serve and offend.

A quick and easy way is to go to yousendit.com and send it to yourself (you'll see what I mean when you get there). The site will host the file, and will send you a link to retrieve it. You can then post that link here. The file will disappear after a certain time period, though, so if you want it to be permanent you'll have to find someone to host it on their web server (you probably have a little bit of space through your ISP too).
