is Bona still open down there? That used to be my go-to Vietnamese place. Best Vietnamese Iced Coffee I've ever had.

If you want to catch a great local musician, you can head to the Triple Rock Social Club on Friday night to see Mark Mallman (www.mallman.com).

I'd be there if I was in MPLS this week. :(

Don't miss Stub and Herb's, not far from Maricucci. It has all the Gopher memorbilia, and has been a classic campus bar for many years. Great before and after games...

Just don't look at anyone funny at Stand Up Frank's. And as tempting as it may be, do not go to the "naughty bar" across the way, which is named "BJ's."

Last time I was in Stand Up's, I asked the bartender to put some rum in my rum and coke. He was offended. :)

As for BJ's, it's an experience. Deja Vu downtown boasts they have 100 beautiful women and 3 ugly ones. BJ's is content with the last 3.

Lots of good drinking bars in that area. The Polish Palace, Laura's 1029, Gabby's if you like music. I prefer Lee's downtown though.

Definitely go to Sterbs if you are in the mood for a bar that smells like a frat party the morning after.

It smells the exact same every time you go there. Personally, I prefer Sally's, but go there after the games and you may see Mazacco & Woog with the rest of the FoxSports crew after (although they aren't doing the games this weekend).

As for other easy suggestions, I suggest Campus Pizza prior to the games, pretty much right across the Subway on Washington (about a 30 second walk from Stub & Herbs). Greasy, soggy, thin pizza, where the parmasean cheese melts into the top layer of the cheese! Get it along with some Italian Fries before your meal, and you'll be a return customer for life!!

Have you ever tousled Mazzocco's Rug? Sounds like the perfect opportunity....

I had a chance to after the '02 Final Five Champ game. I lucked into (through a DU connection, actually) the WCHA hospitality suite and after having a couple barley pops lets just say the temptation was certainly there. He really is a good guy.....but, to paraphrase Ned Braden, why do wear that rug, Frank?

If you go to BJ's, bring your bulletproof vest...Working for a news station here in the Twin Cities, that's the edge of the worst part of the Twin Cities. I've heard a number of gunshots from that area(turned out the guy was shot and killed across the street in Johnny A's 200 Club parking lot, which the guy from Channel 4, said it was the fifth murder he's covered there).

I was at Spin Nightclub a couple weeks ago. Not too bad priced beer, but ultra trendy with a very strick dress code. Nice place though at 5th and Hennipen.

I'm not sure if anybody's mentioned the 7 Corners area. 5 bars all within walking distance of the Holiday Inn Metrodump. I like Bullwinkle's, great burger and fries. Town Hall Brewery is good for your microbrew selection, Grandma's for the sports bar/dance club, Corner Bar for having a pitcher, and I guess Sgt. Preston's serves a killer drink when you're there with a group. I haven't had it, I don't think we had enough people in our group, we were all pretty hammered by this point, so the details are a little sketchy...

For a good lunch, head down Hiwatha, or take the light rail down to Joey D's. It's a Chicago style eatery. Awesome Chicago Dogs (Vienna Beef hotdog with all the fixings like mustard, tomatoes, relish, onions, celery salt, a pickle sphere all on a poppyseed bun). Plus great Polish Sausages, brats, pizza, and sandwhiches. It's located on 42nd Street and 31st Ave. S. A few blocks west off Hiawatha and the Hiawatha Light Rail line.

..... From Mayslak's on the south .....

MMMMM, Mayslak's! Roast Beef! Do they still do the lunch thing? I remember (20 years ago) standing outside in a long line, waiting for my sammich, with a bloody mary in my hand.

It's actually called Al's Breakfast, I believe, and it is outstanding. If you looking for lunch, Burrito Loco and Annie's Parlour are also pretty good bets in Dinkytown.

Someone mentioned Nye's Polynaise Room earlier, it's one of my fav's, a regular post-Gopher football game spot for me and my bro. Pragna is near Nye's (which is not walking distance from campus) and has really big bloody Marys. Also would recommend Mayslacks as well. Get the roast beef, you don't even need to look at the rest of the menu.

Tousling Frank's Rug is definitely on my Top-10-Things-I-Must-Do-Before-I-Die list.  How cool would that be?

Don't forget, for more authentic Slavic dining, Kramarchuk's (across and down street from Nye's)... deli-line tables, but wonderful sausages.

Oops. At least those were just spelling errors, they could've figured it out ;)

Any must-try regional foods (a la wings in Buffalo)?

You could park by the Metrodump. In runs right past there and down 5th Street in downtown Minneapolis. Careful driving on 5th Street. Don't walk across the tracks unless you're at an intersection, you can get a ticket even if there's no train in sight.

Cedar-Riverside (near the coke towers) and The Metrodump (http://www.metrotransit.org/rail/index.asp) are as close as it gets.
