FYI, the D-III semifinal between Elmira and Plattsburgh drew 2,000 plus about as many as the quarter@UMD and quarter@Minnesota combined.

Perhaps it's just me, but the Gophers fans may have been distracted with the men's game tonight.

Not suprising as this has been the best rivalry in D3 women's hockey. Both teams graduating 10 plus seniors and this may be an end to a great era. I sure hope not. :(

Not sure if that number is totally accruate...I think maybe 2000 tickets were sold all day...but there were A LOT of empty seats.

The Dome would have a lot of empty seats.. it holds over 3000 fans

idk Remy...We all know the Domes fits more than 3125...We easily have put over 4000 people in there before getting closer to 5000 or more...
I really believe that 2000 was an acurrate estimate. Plattsburgh had 200 or more people there on their own.

This may not be the case in the specific example given regarding the D3 semi and D1 quarter finals but having been to many D3 games I haven't had to pay to get in, therefore the isn't an accurate attendance, however, the D1 hockey games were paid admission and therefore their is no embellishing of the figures. For example having regularly attended SLUs games this year, they dont charge for womens games and there regular season attendance varied between 400-800. Attendance was 800 for the big Harvard game at the end of the year, however for the Brown series it remained around 600 throughout, however the amount of fans didn't vary 200 people. Its just an estimation at many games.
Secondly I understand there is an arguement about the distraction of the mens game, also what about the fact that the SLU, UMD game was in Wisconsin? You think that factored into anything??? I DO. I think this is like comparing apples and oranges attendance should be judged over time and include all games not just the cream of the crop because stats can be manipulated to make any position sound better.

Slightly off topic...but the DIII Women outdrew the Men in their respective championships! (arena size was a factor, yet who would have thunk it 4 or 5 years ago!!!!)

its nice to see the women getting the fan support
but... why would arena size be a factor

I believe Kenyon only holds 2200+ SRO, so it held down the Men's attendance in relation to the Women last night..

from Midd's site
Middlebury's new hockey home sports a 200' X 95' ice surface and seats 2,600 spectators. The rink also includes several wheelchair spaces, and allows for several hundred standing room viewers.

Kenyon can hold more than that...At the NCAA Men's Quarterfinal game 2 years ago there were easily over 2500...I think announced attendance was near 3000. I didnt think we would ever see the day though where the women's D3 Frozen Four would draw so much people...two years ago i thought 1000 was a enormous crowd for the women's championship. However, this year just set so many new standards that will be tough to follow! Almost 5,000 combined people between the 2 Elmira games...incredible!

One comment on the womens DIII vs the mens DIII championship attendence. It may have something to do with the ticket packages that were sold. It seems that the women had weekend and single day tickets availible where the mens were a set. There were an awefull lot of NEC and Trinity fans there Friday who didn't come back to watch the game on Saturday. These Phantom tickets may have something to do with the lower attendance at Kenyon.
I'm not positive however if Kenyon "sold out" last night or not. I know seats were scarce in groups of 2-3 (I didn't sit with my wife and Father-in-law). I wonder how the off-campus/neutral site rule changes will effect attendence.

Correct! Midd reported 2165 for Saturday night's Men's Championship game; Elmira reported 2335 for Saturday night's Women's Championship game. I was at the Domes both Friday and Saturday and those numbers were not inflated. Also it should be noted that the local pro team (Elmira Jackals) were playing Saturday night also, and drew over 3000, Thats a lot of people watching hockey in Elmira Saturday night.
