In the Western edition of the first round NCAA DivIII tournament Gustavus Adolphus travels to Stevens Point for a highly anticipated matchup with the Pointers. Sentiments, emotions and opinions are rampant on this board about these two squads. Many consider their respective team to be the odds on favorite to win it all this season. Could it be? I haven't seen the Gusties this season, but was able to catch the Pointers in action against Bowdoin. The Pointers have plenty of speed, and some girls who can find the back of the net. The teams split their season contests with each team winning at home. The Gusties prevailed 6-4 while the Pointers won 5-1. Any thoughts or predictions out there?

Gusties have plenty of speed, and are very well coached. They have a top frosh, named Molly Doyle who is as good as any frosh out there. Of course AP, number 23, is the franchise. Look for her to get at least 10 shots on net tonight and scoring on 2 of them, at least. I like the Gusties in a close one 5-3 with an open netter...
Question... What is a pointer? :)

Well, while I will answer the question posed, I will not be baited into asking "what's a gustie?".
A Pointer is a hunting dog. Comes in various different breeds including the German Shorthair, German Wirehair and the normal Pointer. If interested, you can find out more at the American Kennel Club website: www.akc.org

This hasn't been confirmed yet, but if you aren't making the trip over from Minnesota for the game, there's a good chance that you'll be able to listen to the game via the web at: 89.9FM - WWSP - Stevens Point (http://www.uwsp.edu/stuorg/wwsp/90fmlive.ram)

The answer to your question is none, because the game will be over.
AP should be the POY, no question.

Sounds like 0-0 at the end of the first. The webcast should pick up with the second period.

Sounds like the Gusties have controlled most of the second period. Amy Statz is keeping this one close for point as the period ends 1-0.

Noticed from the box score that Statz was pulled about half way through the 3rd period. Did she get hurt? Can anybody who was at Willet Arena give an abbreviated summary of the game, not a P & G novelette, please (he does a good job on those, but deserves some of ribbing because of past comments on this thread).

I'm going to post my impressions of the game tonight. As without bias as I can at this point, as I don't want to come off as a whiner and like I would have hoped to have, had the circumstances been reversed.
Gustavus totally dominated play tonight. Point had a great deal of difficulty getting through the neutral zone unscathed, and had virtually no real good scoring chances after the first period.
Gustavus flat-out out-played, out hustled and out-manned the Pointers tonight. Based on tonight's results, they deserve to go on.
Andrea Peterson was the best player on the ice tonight. Being a former defenseman, I can't say much about her defensive skills, as I didn't see her display them tonight. And yep, she takes a lot of shots. She hit the net twice tonight. Neither one of them were great shots. One was a deke, the other a wrister on an empty net. The other 12-15 shots she took either got blocked by the defense, or went well wide of the net. I would hate to see her stats if she learns how to get her shot off quicker and actually hit the net.
Good game by the Gusties tonight. Good luck the rest of the way.
By the way, where were the 600 fans that were reportedly coming to Stevens Point for the game?
