Which of the new D1 teams will have the best season next year?
Which team will be the most successful in 3-5 years?
If I have my facts correct there will be 3 new teams;
BU
RPI
Robert Morris
Waiting in the the wings?;
URI
Penn State
U of Maryland

Bu only offered three full scholarships this year according to the Hearld. I will have to say RPI they seem to have more players already in place.

URI and Penn State have potential, top ACHA programs......it all boils down to money....Lindenwood in St Louis would be my choice....solid program, well coached, great kids and great parents.....not sure the $$$ is there for varsity D1 which is a shame.
It would be great for Umass Amherst....but, again, where would the money come from?????? They are ground zero for the preps.....could be competitive......

I dont' think any of these programs are going anywhere in the near future.
URI: New AD announces plan to upgrade the Football program $$$$$$$, bye- bye hockey
Penn State: Women's Club program imploded this year, State school, funding is very tight.
UMass: Good women's club program, AD not interested in Women's Varsity Hockey

Oppps: Forgot Lindenwood, NAIA school wanted NCAA to admit Men's and Women's hockey. NCAA refused to bring in only hockey, and the School does'nt want to leave the NAIA for it's other sports. Issue dead!

I heard that umass may want to go up to 1A football because of the success Uconn had. I heard if they do it ... it's possible Umass could have a D1 hockey program for the women. If URI/Umass wants to go 1A football they will need to provide more scholarships. Then that little title IX law kicks in.
I heard that's the only way Umass would have a chance in getting a D1 womens Hockey program.
The football program could bring in some more $$$$ if they make one of the twenty five bowls available.
They are good schools and parents can actually pay for them so recxruiting would not be as tough.

Hi all,
What can anyone tell me about Robert Morris College.
I have a daughter going there next year and just wondering about the new D1 team relative to the one they've been playing and how that all might shake out...?

jt: Robert Morris College has club team status right now. As far as I can see they are an exceptional club team that has had great success against D3 teams also. For a program only in there second year, it looks they have it figured out. Rumors have been flying about them going varsity but I have'nt heard anything printed or posted yet.

Robert Morris will be joining the CHA next year. Quinnipiac is leaving the CHA, so that will leave MC, NU and Wayne State for them to play.
RM College is in Illinois - club
RM University is in Pennsylvania - D1 new in 2005
and probably won't win a game vs D1 for 2 or 3 years.
Robert Morris UNIVERSITY will be joining in the CHA next season... Robert Morris COLLEGE is in Illinois, and to my understanding the schools are not affiliated with each other. RMC has a club team now and most likely will stay club. RMU in Pittsburgh is going Div. 1 and there is not a current team there now.

I think they have the same issues as Lindenwood- they need to switch everything to NCAA- the question is if the school will do it. They have been recruiting like a top D3 school, hope the logistics work out while the core of girls they have is still there.

I was lead to believe that if they go NCAA D2 they would upgade their NAIA teams to NCAA. They would include hockey in this transition. It is a huge step for the school, thus they are taking their time with the decision.
I dont' think any of these programs are going anywhere in the near future. UMass: Good women's club program, AD not interested in Women's Varsity Hockey
The ADs at UMass have been interested since the reinstatement of the men's program. They even had (a may still have) an office for the women's coach in the Mullin's Center.
Unfortuntely the Republican governors have done the slash and burn on the budgets of the state schools, even during the very good years of the late '90s.
And given that UMass-Amherst has more women's sports then men's, there is no need for them to add hockey to be title IX compliant.
Any chance of a move to 1A in football is on a five year hold, again because of budget reasons. If UMass does go that route, it will pretty much kill any hope of there ever being a women's varsity team. There just won't be the funds to go around.
