Anyone have any details on Sundays game? I'm trying to follow the action
on "gametracker" but it is very slow and gives little information and I can't
receive the live broadcast!
It appears the game broke open in the 2nd period with Providence
getting a ton of shots and goals 3-0, one of which was a penalty
shot goal...What happend?

If yr-a UNH fan...you dont want to know whats going on..4-0 for PC at the moment.....
PC is controlling the chances....the small ice is hurting UNH....They better figure that ice surface out before HE Playoffs.
Time will tell.......

It looks like Brian McCloskey gave alittle motivational speech during the
2nd intermission. However, it wasn't enough in the end...
Does anyone know if UNH has ever gone 4 games without a "win" in
their recent school history ? (until now)

Interesting to see how different folks can watch the same thing...and come away with completely different account of what they saw..
PC didn't dominate..or even close.. UNH had the better of the play through the first... shots were even..but UNH controlled the game much more than PC...
The second was a different story..UNH looked tired..playing 4 def all weekend seemed to catch up with them.. First two PC goals were 1 vs 1 rushes by Zimmerman & Gryp....full ice...no less and they simply turned a couple of UNH's frosh def... Third goal had to be the weakest Penalty Shot call I've ever seen... the two UNH defenders caught the PC player and hooked her stick...but Penalty Shot???? Weak...very weak...
The third predictably jekly and hyde.. UNH didn't have a whole lot of fight when they gave up a 4-3 PP goal...to fall down 4-0....But when Hitchcock scored on a delayed penalty call on Providence..it seemed to breath life back into UNH...
Truthfully, I don't think it's a case of UNH "figuring" out how to play on the smaller sheet.. PC is probably the most physical team in the league..they clutch and grab more than any other team in Hockey East..probably in the ECAC as well...UNH is young...and have played most of the season with the smallest roster I've seen.. 13 skaters today... They looked sloppy on the PP today..and if today's game is any indication, they're going to get more advantage situations than their opponents...especially Providence..who despite their coach screaming from the bench...could be penalized every shift for holding, interference...whatever you want to pick..
I've watched them enough to think they'll be a dangerous team come tourney time...

UNH had a couple extended losing streaks in 2000-01...
sk8happy - Avalanche33 wasn't even at the game if you read his posts, but it's not unusual to say a team that went up 4-0 in a game dominated that game. That said, I do agree with your assessment of the game... I do agree UNH controlled play a bit more in the first, but not by much. UNH basically just stopped working after the halfway point up until when they finally cracked the scoreboard.
Funny scenario, especially with PC getting stomped by UCONN and BC back to back...
Its also nice to see that "PC only wins because they clutch/grab" silliness we hear from the marginal Kitty fans didn't have to wait until after the HE Championship game this year.

Jon:
First, no one said PC "only wins" because they cluth & grab.. you said that.
PC is physical, ties up off the puck more than any other team in the east and i've seen them all.. you can put whatever spin you want on that style of play..
As for "marginal wildcat fans" ... I'll harber an educated guess that you're half my age, have watched a lot less college hockey and like so many marginally knowledgeable fans...love to make foolish generalizations about other's comments..
I have no ties with either team.. but I've watched them both over the past two decades. I happen to like ( oh no ) this young wildcat club.. they're fun to watch. The upcoming HE tourney will be up for grabs...the top has broadened this year with UConn, BC & Maine more competitive with the top two... Both PC & UNH are suffering from unexpected personnel losses this year. Both of these clubs have had to battle much harder for the successes they've had. For the first time, it's far from a sure thing they'll even meet again once the tourney rolls around in two weeks..
Keep your hat on and let the players decide the outcome..

Just a couple of observations......
PC does play physical and they do play clutch and grab hockey!! If you have watched them at all this year and know hockey that is a fact. Personally, I like the physical play of the team but, the clutch and grab stuff has to be called more, as it has been on the men's side all year. If your hand is off your stick and your holding the player or the players stick, it has to be called. The refs miss alot in the corners and around the net. There could have been many more calls earlier in the game and in Saturday's game. The refs really miss alot when it comes to PC's style of play. But, like I said, I really like PC's physical play along the boards, in the corners, etc. PC's style or lack of discipline, you could say, hurt them because UNH capitalized on that late in the game. UNH really showed their youth and lack of depth going down 4-0 in what, to date, was a very important game for them. They had their destiny in their own hands. I just don't understand why UNH doesn't have more players. One more line would give this team the depth they need and it would rest some of the better players shift to shift. Does anyone know why UNH has so few players? It looks to me like this is hurting Dartmouth down the stretch as well. (but in Dartmouth's case I think they just don't play their extra line) Maybe Mark Hudak doesn't think that line can play with everyone.....but isn't it his job to develop them? Especially, by now, this late in the season. Same goes for Harvard and Katey Stone. In UNH's case they don't have the numbers. Imagine what UNH could do with another 4 or 5 decent players. My prediction is they will make it to the NCAA tournament but their lack of numbers will really hurt them when it comes to the bigger more physical teams.
Fair enough, but its also legitimate to note that in the past 2 years, the threads following the HE Championship game always had at least two or three twits from UNH complaining about PC's style of play. And they weren't anywhere near as mature as the UNH fans on this thread.
So let's just say that my defensiveness is well founded. :D

Nice to see someone post who actually "watches" the game :) ...I agree that PC's physical style can be fun to watch..they're an interesting team that competes "on the edge".
It's been a strange year with respect to officiating and what's acceptable.. The first half you couldn't hold anyone up without being whistled..or at least the first month.. The half dozen games I've watched this past month it's been back to "letting them play." As a general observation I'd have to say that the directive to return the game to a more skilled affair has disappeared as we've moved deeper into the season.. on both the men's and women's side.
Your query about depth raises another interesting issue on the women's side of our sport. In general, the women's squads are much less deep than their male counterparts. Historically teams on the women's side have been able to play a shorter bench and be successful, especially given the talent gap that's existed between the really elite Olympian atheletes and the rest of the talent pool. That gap seems to be narrowing and while it will always exist, it probably will continue to shrink as the sport grows.
Having daughters who've played this wonderful sport for many years, I'd also comment that girls approach the recruiting process with a much lower tolerance for paying their dues. Unlike the boys who have been forced to accept this integral part of any athletic experience, the top female players usually haven't had a taste of sitting behind better, older athletes. Playing time is an issue for any and all athletes and no one "enjoys" sitting...but the men have had to deal with this reality as they've moved up the ranks.. That's often not the case with the majority female hockey players and it's still common for girls to "expect" to play an impact role from the day they arrive. This "star" mentality really affects most college teams when it comes to recruiting: how much is enough?? and if you have extra players to deal with the reality of injury/player losses how does it affect the team moral if those not playing regularly are miserable? In each of my daughter's experiences we found this to be a tricky tightrope for coaches and players to walk.
Dartmouth, PC, SLU, UNH and probably a number of other programs this year have been caught shorthanded. Injuries, sickness, academic issues and who knows what else can all decimate a small roster in short order. In our experience with our own girls teams it was like the winter weather; some years you get 6 inches of snow and others you get 60. I doubt any of the programs that have been hit hardest this year expected to skate through without missing a beat...but sometimes these things snowball and in the process leave a team very vulnerable. In Dartmouth's case, the combination of untimely player losses to injury/sickness coupled with the double whammy of national team events taking several of their best away for a handful of games, really put them in a hole. I know that both PC and UNH have been hit with significant player losses this year...for all of the reasons cited above.
Both have good sized recruiting classes coming in and in UNH's case, they only graduate one player...so i'd imagine they'll fill many of the holes they've had to live with this season.

Actually, I forgot about that call... it was close.. the ref whistled the play dead just as UNH was pushing a rebound into the net.. From where I sat it looked to be the right call ...but it was very very close.. If anything, PC was fortunate that the ref lost sight of the puck becuase it wasn't tied up and he blew the play dead prematurely..
