The latest Mease-Rutter/Mease ratings have been posted. (http://vortex.bd.psu.edu/~rutter/WomensHockey/0405WomensD1Rankings.html)

In honor of the Bracketology article, I have modified the top 8 in PWR if one were to replace Ratings Percentage Index with the Mease-Rutter ranking. Here is the current "fantasy" top 8:

Rank Team
1 Minnesota
2 Minnesota-Duluth
3 Dartmouth
4 Wisconsin
5 St. Lawrence
6 Harvard
7 Mercyhurst
8 New Hampshire

Wisconsion and St. Lawrence flip positions, since UW has a higher Mease-Rutter while St. Lawrence has a higher RPI. Harvard jumps 2 slots, with Hurst and UNH falling one slot each for similar reasons.

It is interesting to note that this is similar to the predicted PWR using the adjusted RPI, save for the UW/St. L swap. Of course, this would be a worse situation for the NCAA, since number 4 UW would be playing at number 2 UMD in the first round based on travel.

Rusty,

The quick answer is that Colgate jumped them in rankings. UConn's Mease-Rutter rating improved, but Colgate's improved more and moved up three spots. Also, Providence might have a high rating, but their variance is high as well, indicating that they are not very consistent. UConn had swept Princenton, the algorithm would have valued that more since Princeton is more consistant.

Hope this helps.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, as it happens, but I thought that the #1 seed played the #8 seed, and the #2 played the #7, and #3-6 were then matched up due to proximity, thus if UMD gets the #2 seed, they'd play the #7 seed.

That #1 is guaranteed to play #8 and #2 is guaranteed to play #7 was a false rumor. All that seeding the top two teams guarantees is that those two teams won't play each other until the final, nothing else.
