UConn won 3-2, gets the sweep... 30-14 shot advantage for the Friars, but nothing to show for it.

Cloud9, will you be at UConn this weekend? We're going to be doing the Sunday game on the radio (whus.org). Jaclyn Hawkins (Fr.) has been huge for the Huskies this year, but the team has really come together of late and is on a tear.

Unfortunatly not, going down to Boston Saturday for our men's team game against NU and have to work Sunday, will hopefully catch the tail end of the broadcast.

How much recognition has that goaltending tandem of Murphy and Shain gotten over the last three years for UConn? As a casual observer (I have seen one of Shain's games and none of Murphy's) it seems to me that they have been the backbone of this team. Have they been named to conference teams etc? Must be a tough decision most nights for the coach, as to which one to put between the pipes.

Kaitlyn Shain was Hockey East All-Rookie team in 2002-03. Natalie Vibert got All-Rookie in 2003-04. No UConn player has ever made the First or Second conference All-Star Team.

And you can't argue with the selections either. In 02-03, it was Huggon and Gunn. In 03-04 it was Gunn and Maine's Lara Smart. Smart started every Hockey East game for Maine and was second only to Gunn in league save percentage. The UConn goalies might have been the backbone of the team, but they haven't had the consistency in the pass to compete for those awards. And splitting them doesn't help either's award prospects.

At this point of the season, Bourdon looks like the clear First Team goalie, while Second Team is pretty wide open. Possibly Shain has the slight edge right now over Hourihan (remember it's Hockey East games that count here.)

Dave can you explain to me what makes up the HE Rookie team, the first team and the second team. Who picks them and how are they picked. How many on each team. I realize they are not a "team" that plays a game, but I'm just curious as to how its done, how many, etc. Where would I find the previous years "teams"? What about a nationwide team? Do they have nationwide allstar and rookie teams? Thanks.

The 2002-03 awards for Hockey East are here:
http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/women/archives/20022003.html
Unfortunately, I can't find the 2003-04 awards anywhere.

I'm not sure exactly how all-conference teams are picked, and it might not be the same across all conferences. Typically it's the coaches who vote. The SIDs at either the school or more likely the conference level might also be involved.

All-Americans can be found here:
http://www.ahcahockey.com/
I believe these are picked by the all coaches. The problem with that, however, is that coaches have a tendency to be biased towards their own conferences, so I think players on these teams get more evenly distributed across conference than they perhaps should be.

Media outlets like USCHO and INCH have also recently started naming All-American teams, and those are picked by their staff. INCH, of course, does not cover women's hockey.

Due to scheduling and administrative stuff, we aren't going to be able to do the UNH-UConn game on the radio, which is a real shame.

But the good news is that UConn will have live stats for both games at UConnhuskies.com

Sorry guys.
