Short interuption just to be cheeky!
Greatest Women's Hockey = GWH
Gophers Women's Hockey = GWH
GWH = GWH
So there you have it.
Carry on....

Now that the season is over, I don't think we are any closer to saying where this Gopher team ranks in terms of all-time greatness. The caliber of teams varies too much from year to year to offer anything other than a subjective opinion. So if someone claims that another team was better, I see it as futile to spend much time arguing the point. But they were the fastest team that I ever saw, and as good as any at handling the puck, up and down their lineup. Some teams probably had more size/strength, and a greater number of pure scorers.
One thing that I do know is that they won the most games ever. I realize that they played more games, but you still have to win them.

I wasn't really considering third lines and third D rotations... I think if your top 10 players are well-conditioned enough, it makes up for the 11th and 12th players not being as good. Harvard did have a 5th D and 7th F step in during the NCAA final late in the game.
I only brought up the scoring potential of the second lines because that's where the difference is. In evaluating the defense, I think more of the entire team, and the results are fairly similar. (Even both teams have now given up 7 goals in a game to Dartmouth ;) )
Great question. The talent vs. dominance question is key. In every sport, the level of talent goes up every year. Pick a sport...any one. When you compare TV broadcasts of teams playing today vs. broadcasts of teams playing say 10 years ago...there's typically a noticable difference.
I think one interesting piece of the answer will come in who is selected to the Olympics (and like teams).

I forget whether I posted this in this thread already, but if you compare the GWG in the 1999 final to the GWG in the 2003 final.... world... of... difference. Leading up to that 1999 GWG, UNH had about a half dozen d-zone turnovers which were all worse than anything you saw on Sunday.

I don't think Hockey Canada and USA Hockey's evaluation of individual talent and how in translates to the international game is particularly relevant IMO.

He's had so many hockey teams from Minnesota visit since he's been in office, he probably thinks they are all the same team. But you're probably right about Krissy, since they are buds from Salt Lake. IIRC, Natalie couldn't go last year because she had a vacation planned.

Good point ARM. I'm not sure that he thinks about it though, I mean, can he??

He is still working on the spelling of Minnesota. Maybe the band can head down to Washington to help him with that.

I have not followed women's hockey long enough to add add to this discussion, but I am glad that I went to as many (Gopher) women's games as I did this year.
This team was an absolute pleasure to watch.
A couple of my favorites--
Andrea Nichols...the smallest skater, but played so much bigger than her stature.
Chelsey Brodt...Can really skate and nice offensive type D.
Erica McKenzie...A little time and she will be a star.
Wendall/Darwitz/Stephens...You are on the edge of your seat every time they were on the ice. This is espicially when Krissy had the puck, you just never knew what kind of a move she was going to make.
Congratulations go out to the ladies! BACK TO BACK CHAMPS!--Now I'll have two back to back shirts in my closet.

The best women's college hockey team has to be Laurier. If we are taking all of the North American hockey teams into this discussion. :)

Just wondering.......because if you weren't it would an obvious that you have never seen a D1 game involving some of the top teams. I watched Laurier this year and Middlebury would have killed them (or Elmira, or Plattsburgh, or GAC, or......); not to mention the Gophers or Havard, or (insert other top 25 D1 schools here).....

2002-2003 Elmira College Women's team
This was the team's 2nd national championship in the program's 2nd year of existence.
This team went 23-0-2 against D3 competition....
In conference games...they were 12-0-0 with 102 goals scored and 1 against
Goal differential....167 goals scored...16 scored against
Won the National Championship 5-1.
In only 2 games Elmira didnt win by more than a goal.
Elmira was 0-4 in their games against d1 teams...In no way am i arguing they are better than D1 teams...But this is probably the best D3 team ever created though.

I'm sorry but I just have to say this:

I had the pleasure of a visit to Elmira College. What a beautiful campus. Everyone I met was so nice. It's no wonder that everyone who goes to Elmira absolutely loves it.
I wish them continued success.
still amazed

I guess you missed the CIS championship game in which Laurier defeated the University of Alberta to end their winning streak.
