Let's see who has the best average game and single game attendance. Anyone want to start?

I don't need to look at the numbers to know that the Minnesota Golden Gophers will lead the nation . . . probably by A LOT!!!!
2480 at game two between MN and UMD at Ridder . . . most teams never approach those kinds of numbers.
The Gophers usually don't post those kinds of numbers either.
They will most likely lead the nation in attendance, but those will probably be the two top drawing games.

SCSU game 1 = 1193
SCSU game 2 = 1002
OSU game 1 = 1556
OSU game 2 = 1853
UMD game 1 = 2457
UMD game 2 = 2480
For the three series played at Ridder to date as per box score attendance figures. FWIW, I've read in the forum a number of times that attendance figures from box scores may not be very accurate...don't know if that's true or not. I seem to recall last seasons average for Ridder was between 1800 -1900, don't quote me on that.

Off the top of my head, I think the leaders are Minnesota, UMD, Wisconsin, NoDak and Dartmouth... with Minnesota No. 1... I'm not sure of the order of the others.
UNH used to be the best in the East but it's way down lately and long since surpassed by Dartmouth. The Dartmouth@Harvard game has had the biggest attendance in the East the last two years, but Harvard doesn't get much attendance other than for that one game.

Looks like they pretty much double when playing UMD. As we would expect! What about some of the other teams. UNH, Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth?

The problem with UNH is that they charge $7 a ticket, we are one of the few programs in the east that even charges admission and $7 is probably one of the highest prices in the country.

OK, the list with games played so far, Mean (Median)
1. Minnesota 1757 (1704)
2. Wisconsin 1239 (1028)
3. N. Dakota 1048 (732)
4. Minn.-Duluth 815 (839)
5. Dartmouth 774 (843)
I don't think anyone else is averaging over 500... the other GAME I can think of that got over 500 that didn't involve these teams is Harvard@Yale which got over 800. I don't think anyone else's attendance is worth calculating at this point since attendances under 500 tend not to be all that precise anyway, and it'd be somewhat meaningless to rank such schools.

Eight bucks adult general admission at Ridder, a price I've always considered a bargain, especially in terms of ticket prices for other pro / amateur sports in the area and the overall product / entertainment value. There is also usually a seven dollar parking fee in nearby lots.

Just for kicks, throw in DivIII Bowdoin which averaging 726 at home (admittedly early in the season for them)

Men's Hockey East tickets in the $7-$10 range: UMass, UMass Lowell, Vermont (next year), Providence, Merrimack (5 out of the 10 teams in the league)
Women's Hockey East tickets in the $7-10 range: UNH.

That's right.... Bowdoin got 904 for its game with Middlebury, best game in the East so far this year. But there's no way Bowdoin will maintain a 500+ average attendance for the season though.

944, but who's counting ;) ...and you're right, they probably won't maintain a 500 average, but they consistantly lead the country in Div III womens hockey and will probably do so again this season...might draw close to 1000 this Saturday against Plattsburgh...this is a major feat in Div III...and they deserve all the credit they can get....and remember...population within 20 miles of the rink is under 80,000!!!

WHAT was going on the weekend that SCSU was at Ridder? I can't believe an OSU series would outdraw SCSU at Ridder

It is nice to read the posts about attendance at these games. I have not been to a women's game yet with the kind of numbers being mentioned here other than USA v. Canada in Burlington.
However, I have been going to just about every game d3 NEC has played for 3 years and the number of people attending each game, home and away, is double and triple the numbers from 3 years ago. It used to be just some of the parents from both teams, now students and general fans of the schools are attending. The game is catching on! :)

$20 reserved/$18 general admission for the men here, believe it is the most expensive in Hockey East, but a few of the other schools are catching up.

Is the up tick in attendence across the board -- say from the last Olympics?
dave1381
12-03-2004, 07:52 AM
No, no.... the uptick in attendance that was mentioned is happening in D-III. In D-I, there definitely has not been an uptick in attendance across the board.
In general, I think the D-I attendance is cyclical. It peaks in the first post-Olympic season (98-99 and 02-03) then steadily declines every year until it surges up again in the next post-Olympic season.
The exceptions to this rule are teams with new programs, new arenas, or just exceptionally good. So NoDak is doing well, Dartmouth's attendance increased a lot from 02-03 to 03-04, Minnesota's attendance declined from the opening of Ridder in 02-03 to the next season 03-04. Now it's doing better in 04-05 than in 03-04.
