Hi All,
I am starting a thread for people to discuss MIAC Women's Hockey. All to often I come to this forum to read the threads only to discover that there is not much MIAC coverage here.
So here is a call out to the Tommies, the Gusties, the Blazers, the Cardinals, the Cobbers, the Olies (sp?), the WildCats, the Royals, the Auggies, and the Pipers. Come here to talk about the MIAC.
Sincerely,
Goalies_R_us

Happy to see a thread devoted to MIAC teams. Lot's of fine players, some of whom I watched during their high school careers. The Tommies Ashley Reinhardt & the Gusties Molly Doyle, former teammates at Eagan among them. They played on a line together with current Gopher frosh Jenelle Philipczyk to form a high powered HS scoring line & all three were a treat to watch. I'll have to catch some local MIAC games in the future.

Yah, all too often, the MIAC is overlooked.
I think it would be interesting to see what people think will be the final standings for the MIAC this year.
Here's my bet:
1. Gustavus
2. St. Olaf
3. St. Thomas
4. Augsburg
5. Concordia
6. St. Kate's
7. St. Mary's
8. St. Ben's
9. Bethel
10. Hamline

Here's my bold predictions:
I'm thinking we're gonna have co-champs this year. I see St. Thomas tying and beating Gustavus, but losing 2 points to the Auggies. I see Gustavus winning all their other conference games, except a tie to St. Olaf.
1. Gustavus
St. Thomas
3. St. Olaf
4. Augsburg
5. St. Mary's

Glad to see this thread, too. I have special interest, but no opportunity to see many, if any, games.
Help out a new-to-MIAC-fan:
how many teams go to playoffs?

The top five of the ten teams in the MIAC advance to playoffs. There is a play-in game on Tues 3/1 between the 4th and 5th seeds. The semifinals are played on Thurs 3/3 between the number 1 seed and the winner of the play-in game and between the 2nd and 3rd seeds. The championship game is played on Sat 3/5 and the winner of that game receives the MIAC auto-bid to nationals... hope this is what you were looking for toots.

Tommiehoc23 -
Thanks! Very specific answer to my question. Will help me watch for the battles for end-of-season placement.
Gratefully...

from looking at the gusties stats so far this season they have had a cakewalk except for their first two games. I think we will find out if they are contenders not only for the miac but for the nationals if they can put up a good showing against middlebury and point in january. as far as the tommies their pp was looking pretty good against mary's this past weekend, and they will certainly challenge the gusties if they don't have solid goaltending and if they keep the tommies off the pp. olaf should compete with the auggies for the conference 3rd spot both are strong teams but not quite what the top two are right now.

Should be an interesting series this weekend with Gustavus v. St. Olaf. Gustavus is a great team, but I think St. Olaf can compete. Would definitely make the race for the MIAC title more interesting if they were to split this weekend.

That's interesting, as this past weekend Gustavus beat St. Olaf 4-2 and 8-1. An interesting fact, the Gusties were the first team to beat the Ole's at a Friday night game, something the Tommie's could not accomplish a little over a month ago.

One of my favorite high school players to watch last season. I knew she'd do well where ever she played. Congrats to Molly, a big part of the Gusties success I'm sure.

Hey brooky, did you read this article about Doyle from the Outside Sources links?
http://www.gustavus.edu/oncampus/athletics/news.cfm?view=home&id=1007
I wish she had walked on at Minnesota. It would have been a treat to watch her, even had it been in a limited role. She worked as hard on the ice as anyone I've ever watched play the game. Nice to see her having success at the next level. I hope she achieves even bigger things for GA.

Thank's ARM, I hadn't seen it. I agree completely, she was the hardest working player I've ever watched too...she went 110% at all times, and never stopped. Something I think we discussed a time or two while watching Eagan. I read some comments made by her former coach, Mr Darwitz. He said the very same things. It would have been great to have her at Minnesota & I'm convinced she would have done well in division 1. I might have to go watch Gustavus if the opportunity arises...should have gone to that UWRF tourney 15 minutes down the road.

The Gophers recruited the best player from the 2003/2004 Eagan team in Philipczyk, without a doubt. A good prediction of what would be Doyle's success in D-I is a level lower than Philipczyk's success this year with the Gophers.
I'm not saying that she would have put up numbers, or even gotten much for ice time. But I think her work ethic would have brought a lot of intangibles to the team. She struck me as the type that would have gone just as hard in practice, and any team call always use good practice players. By the end of her career, who knows? Still, she seems to have wound up in a good spot, and I'm happy for her.

Probably true. Perhaps similar to current walk on Whitney Graft who is right at home in D-I with Minnesota I think. That Eagan line was quite dynamic though & I'm guessing Molly was a more prolific scorer than Whitney in HS

1. Gustavus (36)(with a perfect conference run)
2. St. Thomas (30)
3. St. Olaf (29)

6. St. Ben's (13)
St. Mary's (13)
8. Hamline (7)
9. Concordia (6)
10. St. Kate's (5)

Concordia at 9th - are they really that weak?

If your prediction comes true, goMIAC, I believe it would be the first time in St. Mary's women's hockey history that the team didn't make the playoffs.
