Well...no more predictions for these games...here are the results:
Gac 5 St. Mary's 1
St. Thomas 8 St. Olaf 1
Next up...GAC vs. St. Thomas in St. Peter. Should be quite a game. I predict GAC winning 4-2, with one empty netter. Anyone else care to predict?

Tonight in the MIAC, a cold Minnesota night:
Concordia at St. Thomas
Hamline at Bethel
St. Olaf at St. Mary's
Gustavus Adolphus at Augsburg
St. Benedict at St. Catherine
This is the next to the last weekend of league play. The Gusties and Tommies have clinched playoff berths. That leaves three more to be filled. Who will they be?
Any predictions, either about tonight's games or making the playoffs?
:)
Today's Tip: Dress warmly, especially for that Hamline-Bethel game. Columbia Arena is a very cold place!

Thanks for reviving this ancient thread, dumpthepuck!
Listened to the St. Olaf at St. Mary's game via web, and the Cardinals of SMU defeated St. Olaf, 3-1. Amanda Gage was in net for SMU - she has played three out of the last four SMU games and won all three.

You are welcome. I went looking for this old thread to generate some interest in the wind up of the MIAC season. Glad that you are on board!!
I know Amanda Gage and think that she is a really talented goalie. I'm really glad to hear that she has had an opportunity and did herself proud. Good job, Amanda!

Is that for sure?
I guess that after the Superior loss and the Gustie loss, both in their own barn, something happened.
Congratulations, Cobbers!

for current standings:
http://www.miac-online.org/whockey.html
next week's schedule:
Thursday, February 23:
St. Thomas at Hamline 7:00 pm
Friday, February 24:
St. Catherine at St. Olaf 7:00 pm
Bethel at St. Mary's 7:05 pm
Concordia at Augsburg 7:05 pm
Gustavus Adolphus at St. Benedict 7:30 pm
Saturday, February 25:
Hamline at St. Thomas 7:00 pm (new time)
Concordia at Augsburg 2:15 pm
St. Mary's at Bethel 7:00 pm
St. Benedict at Gustavus Adolphus 7:00 pm
St. Olaf at St. Catherine 7:05 pm
the battle for 4-5-6 (and out) is tight!. Olies, after dropping two against St. Mary's this past weekend, look to have the easier time to get 4 points against St. Kate's. Bethel-St. Mary's and Concordia-Augsburg series will be crucial. Will be fun to watch...

Here are the remaining games in the MIAC leading up to the playoffs, with my predictions for outcomes.
Thursday, February 23:
St. Thomas at Hamline 7:00 pm (Tommies 6 Pipers 2 )
Friday, February 24:
St. Catherine at St. Olaf 7:00 pm (Oles 6 Wildcats 3)
Bethel at St. Mary's 7:05 pm (Royals 4 Cardinals 3)
Concordia at Augsburg 7:05 pm (Auggies 2 Cobbers 1)
Gustavus at St. Benedict 7:30 pm (Gusties 7 Blazers 3)
Saturday, February 25:
Hamline at St. Thomas 2:00 pm (Tommies 5 Pipers 3)
Concordia at Augsburg 2:15 pm (Auggies 3 Cobbers 3)
St. Mary's at Bethel 7:00 pm (Royals 3 Cardinals 3)
St. Benedict at Gustavus 7:00 pm (Gusties 8 Blazers 2)
St. Olaf at St. Catherine 7:05 pm (Oles 7 Wildcats 2)
My predicted standings after the weekend:
1 Gustavus Adolphus 35 17- 0- 1
2 St. Thomas 31 15- 2- 1
3 Bethel 22 10- 6- 2
4 St. Olaf 20 10- 8- 0
5 Augsburg 18 7- 7- 4
6 St. Mary's 18 7- 7- 4
7 Concordia 13 5- 10-3
8 St. Benedict 11 4- 9- 5
9 Hamline 9 3-10- 5
10 St. Catherine 3 1-16- 1
If this happens, then the following teams will make the playoffs: GAC, St. Thomas, Bethel, St. Olaf, and Augsburg. According to today's newspaper, GAC and St. Thomas have already clinched places. Augsburg should make it over St. Mary's on the basis of head to head win on December 3.
The first game of the playoffs is the play in game held on Tuesday, February 28. I think that will feature St. Olaf v Augsburg. This will be very close, possibly a tie, with St. Olaf winning it in overtime.
Then the next round will be set up for Thursday, March 2. This will pit GAC v St. Olaf and St. Thomas v Bethel. Both GAC and St. Thomas should win. The final will be held in St. Peter on March 4. I will withhold a specific outcome prediction because of my personal superstition regarding this game.
See you at the rink!

Here is tonight's game with my prediction.
Thursday, February 23:
St. Thomas at Hamline 7:00 pm (Tommies 6 Pipers 2 )
Then this weekend all will be settled as to who continues into the playoff.
Incidentally, a correction to my post below. Now the MIAC is stating that Bethel has also clinched a playoff berth. See the MIAC at http://www.miac-online.org/whockey.html

watching the Hamline/UWS games a couple weekends ago..I think it will easily be an 8-0 win at a minimum for St Thomas..Hamline may have passed St Kates/St Bens for the bottom team in the MIAC. I actually felt sorry for their goalie when she was pulled in Saturdays game against UWS...she was visibly distraught, crying, and wanted nothing to do with her teamates after that performance.

In case anyone is going to Saturday's UST vs. Hamline game. The game time is 7pm, not 2pm.

You are right!! I'm sorry for the misinformation. :(
Here is the announcement from the Tommies in which they announced the time change:
Sports Information home | Women's Hockey home
February 14, 2006 -- Women's Hockey
Women's Hockey changes Feb. 25 game time
--The St. Thomas-Hamline women's hockey game set for Saturday Feb. 25 will start at 7 p.m., instead of 2 p.m., due to a conflict with ice time. The teams will open the series with a Thu. Feb. 23 game at St. Paul Academy's Drake Arena.
This was found at: http://www.stthomas.edu/tommies/shared/shownews.cfm?ArticleID=3984
I won't be able to attend, but hopefully there will be a good crowd.

St Thomas wins tonight 10-0.
From Hamline website
February 23
Women's hockey falls in home finale
Tommies Tanaya Reitz, Ashley Reinhardt, and Jacki Carroll each scored two goals as St. Thomas defeated Hamline 10-0 Thursday night at Drake Arena.
The Tommies (19-4-1, 14-2-1 in the MIAC) scored three times in the first and second periods and four more times in the third period to earn the win.
Hamline (4-15-5, 3-11-3) held St. Thomas to just 36 shots in the game, but starting goaltender Rachael Young allowed six goals on 21 shots. Backup Crystal Testolin allowed four goals on 15 shots.
Tommie netminder Katie Jetland stopped 18 shots for the shutout victory.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at St. Thomas. Game time is slated 7:00 p.m.

St. Catherine 0 at St. Olaf 7
Bethel 2 at St. Mary's 0
Concordia 3 at Augsburg 2
Gustavus Adolphus 4 at St. Benedict 0
St. Olaf clinched a spot in the postseason. Neither Augsburg nor St. Mary's helped themselves last night. St. Mary's has 17 points and Auggies 15 going in to the last day. If Augsburg wins this afternoon, they will be in the postseason as the fifth and final team, because they hold the tiebreak advantage over St. Mary's (which would be the first time in MIAC playoff history that SMUMN would not be in the playoffs). But, if Augsburg loses, the Cardinals will go, regardless of the result of their game tonight.
