Noted that Harrigan has won the OPOW two weeks in a row. Good for her. She’s a very good player but seems to get lost in the shadows of the Olympic players in the WCHA as well all the attention that is placed on UMN, UMD and Wisconsin.

Nothing against Uliasz’s weekend but I thought Shaublin may get the nod as DPOW. I was at the Saturday game and thought she was outstanding and one of the main reasons for the tie. Thought her performance in this game as well as putting the first “blemish” on UMN’s record may have been enough to earn the DPOW.

St. Cloud is a tough team to figure. A win against OSU, now a win vs. SLU. Meantime, they lost to Wayne St.

I'm glad for Koizumi and Schaublin . . . but was very, very surprised the Allison Lehrke didn't get consideration . . .

Why? You can clearly only nominate one player per team. And I think Koizumi deserved the UMD nomination over Lehrke. Lehrke had the best single game of everyone, but Koizumi had the best weekend overall.

I think Lehrke sparked the 'Dogs to the big win on Saturday . . . got the 2nd line rolling and continued it during game 2. Maybe it's just because I see how hard she works every single game . . . and to see it pay off (at last) is really great for her. Oh well, maybe next week!

Lehrke wasn't even on the ice for any of Koizumi's goals in the second game. I just don't see how you can give Lehrke more credit for *sparking* Koizumi in the second game than for Koizumi herself for scoring the goals. I think Koizumi worked as hard as Lehrke this weekend, and had the far greater impact on the second game, and was clearly more deserving of the team's nomination.

From the WCHA website. At the conclusion of the first half, just a two point separation. Wisconsin / Ohio State well within striking distance. POTW yet to come.

Wendell gets 5 points against a strong team. Apparently many of those that saw the game in person thought she was the dominant player of the weekend. She doesn't even get honourable mention. I know she may, probably will, win Patti Kaz but still she should be recognized when she performs in a clutch. ( or is it better to get game winning points against weaker teams?)

As I pointed out last week when others complained that Lehrke didn't get honorable mention when Koizumi won the award - teams can only nominate one player per team for any WCHA weekly award. Minnesota chose to nominate Stephens because she made the play that won a game for them in the end. I wouldn't fault them for that.

Also regarding Wendell - yes, she's going to look like the dominant player in any game she plays. Are you going to give her an award every week for that, especially in a week when she gets 0g, 5a? She definitely struggled to finish this weekend, while Darwitz and Stephens did not, and it was not as if Darwitz and Stephens' success was a result of Wendell being on the ice - each had great individual efforts at times on their goals. While piling up goals isn't the be all end all of course, it matters a lot when you're deciding an award called OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK.
