I'm driving up to Providence tomorrow morning for this two-game series. It should be very competitive, and I'm very interested in seeing how Princeton fares without most of its stars from last year.

If anyone else from this board is at the game, I'll be the one wearing some sort of Princeton paraphenalia.

KIM PEARCE IS JUST FLAT OUT UNSTOPPABLE THIS AFTERNOON - FOUR GOALS, INCLUDING AN EXTRA ATTACKER GOAL TO TIE THE GAME. UNREAL

Is Gametracker malfunctioning, or are those numbers after 1 period for real?!?!

it's malfunctioning... look at play-by-play instead of the box score or anything else...

one thing that does stand... lot's of goals scored on 5-on-3s

Only 2 of the 8 goals were 5 X 3. A couple might have come a short while after the 1st penalty expired. I think that was the case on PC's 3rd goal at the beginning of the 3rd. If I do remember correctly 6 of the 8 were power play goals

Princeton fought back twice to get the tie. Pearce's 2nd goal tied it about 7 minutes after PC took a 2-1 lead and then she got 2 goals in the 3rd to come back from the 2 early 3rd period goals by PC.

Princeton had a slight advantage in play in each of the 1st 2 periods. They actually seem to have a very good power play. They pass the puck around real well. PC had the better of the early 3rd but by the late part of the period their legs seemed gone. There were no real threats in OT but the better part of play was down in the Princeton zone. When Providence moved it down they seemed out of sync. They also seemed to have pulled Zimmerman from her lines last shift.

Princeton open scoring when Pearce made a strong rush caught the defensemen being undecided what to do and then fired it past Thomas who did not seem to read it very well. Early in the second Zimmerman and Thatcher each scored on the 2 penalties that consisted the 5 x 3 that Zimmerman scored on. Thatcher's goal came when she plucked the puck from Gaudiel just before she could freeze it. Pearce's 2nd tied it. PC opened the 3rd with clean blast from the point by Gigliotti that seemed to stay low and elude Gaudiel and then Zimmerman scored her 2nd from the left of the crease on a pretty feed from Thatcher. Pearce answer with her 3rd when she slipped behind the defense on a nice pass from Keady. The final goal in the last minute with the goalie pulled and on a power play came when Pearce was on the left doorstep unattended and I'm pretty sure it was Jackson who got it to her.

Pearce was pretty unstoppable. She froze the defense on 1, slipped by them on two, and was not covered down low on the others. I thought Jackson had a good game also. She made a strong sh bid in the first, had another good rush later and set up 2 of the goals. For Providence Thomas had a pretty strong game in net with only the 1st goal being a really bad goal. This was her first start against a quality team since she was a freshmen. She ended up with about 32 or so saves some really nice ones included.

ah, i was just deceived by the screwed-up gametracker... it overlapped the penalties from every period in the box score section, so it made it look like there were more five-on-threes than there really were.

I think I counted 21 penalties though I really lost track I thought it was split 11/10. I think they were even after 1, Princeton had one more in the second then PC which lead to Zimmerman's 5X3 and 2 penalties overlapping the start of the 3rd and I'm pretty sure since there were only seconds on the 1st Gigliotti goal came 5X4. PC picked up a bunch in the 3rd though and they all seemed to be types you make when you lose you legs.

What happened to the game that was supposed to be played today at 2:00? There's no indication of a score or whether or not it was cancelled for some reason. The Providence site has removed it from their list of games to check out with GameTracker.

I'm back after my jaunt to Providence. The Saturday game was marred by bad officiating, in my view (and this affected both sides). The refs, in addition to calling the phantom obstruction and interference, also seemed to call penalties whenever someone fell down. Ruined the game. The referee on Sunday, alternatively, was excellent.
