I noticed that Theresa Ella is on NU’s roster but in looking at their box scores, have not seen her name in the line-up. With the transfers out of NU, I thought she would play an important role on D for the team. Is she injured?

Also, in reading the thread on UNH and UCONN game, I noticed a post that said Garland was hurt in the game last Friday. In checking the box score of the UNH/BC game last Sunday, I noticed she was not in the line-up. Any status on her injury? She is an important part of their D and special teams.

good question... it was reported a while back that Theresa Ella had asked for her release, so I was surprised to see her on the roster in the first place. maybe it's a mistake? EDIT: duh, she's an assistant captain, so scratch that explanation.

Ella is still at Northeastern, though currently not playing due to an injury (as of Oct 22/23) The Huskies could really use her back on "D"

I got a chance to watch NU play at Niagara last week. I was really surprised at the defensive play of NU. There was virtually none both games. Although Niagara put up 13 goals to NU's 2, the games could have been much worse. NU had a ton of power plays. Niagara was shorthanded much of the second and third period. IMHO NU needs defense NOW, however they have to finish the year with what they have. NU would be a great place for a players looking to play a lot next year. Assuming they can handle the puck W/O looking at it, Skate, and be able to pass the puck W/O the forechecker catching up to it before it gets to the wing. Looks like a long year at NU. I thought there might be 6 players that should be playing D-1 hockey on that team. Although NU is in the midst of a new coach and first year asistant coaches, I don't think you can expect them to work any miracles this year or next, and maybe the next two after that if they don't get some Def players who can step right in next year.
Niagara was really fun to watch, alot of big fast and smart players. Riggs and Moxley were fun to watch. Niagara was all around the net, and cycled the puck to the point the D for NU looked dizzy and all but fell down. I was really impressed with Niagara, except for all the penalties. A well coached team

this might be good, as far as I know, unh is already very tight for D players. Are they going to have forwards play back for a few weeks now??

I will asume that you are asking about the NU fowards playing back. I saw two games, they ran Goodney at D a couple of times that was about it. I don't think the fowards can log any more ice time. They are always on the ice now as it seems. If they move them back, they won't come off of the ice. NU is trying to hide too many weak players. If you get a chance to watch the game, I think you will be really surprised also at how weak they are. It makes me wonder how people think the program is better off with out Woog. Now they don't have Woog, and also no D. When I say they have 6 D-1 players I mean that is all. I really hope NU gets a couple of transfers from other schools that can step right in. I think that might be their only saving grace to really build the program in the next couple of years. When you look at how Niagara played UNH, and what UNH did to Niagara the second game. Then compare what Niagara did to NU both games, that should give you a good look at what NU is working with this year. Three words RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT. What is even more disturbing is NU has brought in only one player on a visit so far this year, and not even a blue chipper.

I doubt that Laura Schuler has had much chance to think about recruiting, and Carrie Sekela is still trying to work out her visa issues. I don't know about the other assistant, but I would imagine they are going to try and get things straightened out in-house first, then start travelling to do recruiting.

I will try and get ahold of Carrie this week and see what the word is.

Are you kidding? Woog is the reason they are in this situation in the first place. Give the new coach some time to settle in the few players she has left and some time (two years) to recruit what she needs.

It's going to be a long rookie season for Nikki, if you keep trashing her team mates. Defensive play is a team concept. You can have very ordinary D as long as your forwards are executing their defensive responsibilities.
Also nice attempt at trying to recruit players, better go to SSM & sign some players.
It's going to take Shuler at least 2 years to turn things around.

Hatrick- Take ie easy. Can't we have a fresh start this year? I'm really a sensative person.

I was just sharing some observations I made at the games I watched. As my job affords me the luxury of traveling I will be able to take in a lot of games this year, more than in the years past. I was able to watch a Providence game and Wisconsin Game also already this year. The Thread however is about HOCKEY EAST PLAYERS. Realistically I think it wil be a long season for all of the NU players, it does not make much sense to single out players names here, and as you have read, I did not. I'm sorry if I offended you in some way personally. I was just describing what I saw. I saw great hockey and good players from Niagara, I saw a weak defense from NU, I don't think I trashed any individual team mate on NU's roster. Bottom Line is they need defense, Can't get around that one simple fact. Honestly it would not do NU any good to recruit at SSM this year, they don't have a impact defenseive player that could step right in next year. Transfers from other schools with talent and experience are definetly a plus on any team rebuilding. Hopefully the situation at NU gets better with time. My only point from the recruiting aspect of things is that they are now behind for next year. I was just wondering why you put Nikki's name in the post. You are way behind, everyone knows my daughter plays for Providence.
As far as the Woog situation goes, Or any other coach for that matter, I take issue with players trying to hold a program hostage. Remember there is no law that says these colleges have to have female hockey teams, I don't think it does any one any good to bite the hand that feeds them.
Once again I did not mean to offend any one, I was just expressing my observations. Riggs was fun to watch. People do that every now and then on this site. Take care, and take Ritalin.

Losing Mike Cox has had the biggest adverse effect on NU recruiting IMHO. I'd met him and he is a great guy who sold the program well. Shuler will eventually get it together, but she's been on board only what, 8 weeks......losing Mike's networking with all the NEPSAC coaches and Canadian and midwest coaches really has NU behind the 8ball this year. They will need to be in overdrive for the spring signing season.......look for them to network hard with NAHA between now and then.

But by the same token no coach should run a team in such a manner as to make the athlete's experience unpleasant. Unfortunately just about anyone who has played an organized sport has run into a ball busting hard***** coach. I'm not talking about the type who is a task master, but the type who thinks negative reenforcement is the way to motivate players.

While you may get results with this approach, it is usually only for the short term. And the coaches who take this approach, not matter at what level, eventually end up with players who turn a deaf ear and either passively, or in Woog's case, aggressively rebel.

I can't see how anyone can find fault with any amateur athlete wanting to seek out a better playing situation when the one they are in turns sour and involves verbal and emotional abuse.

Agreed completely about Mike, but as far as the NAHA connection, from what I've seen, that's his too!!
Tough situation for the new coach.

No kidding. I believe Coach Shuler and Coach Driscoll know each other fairly well......or soon will!!!!
