Must say I was more impressed with UMD's openning series than I thought I would be. The sophomore class was truly impressive . . . Marin's playing at a new level, Koizumi's picking up right where she left off last season, Jubinville's showing more skill with the puck - quite a danger with that great speed she has. Lehrke, Sales . . . both goalies . . . they All looked more comfortable and much improved over last season. Freshman Rachael Drazen is all she was supposed to be . . . sluggish and somewhat tentative the first game but that seemed to be totally gone in the second. A true defender with offensive threat for the Dogs . . . not since Luther's first season have the Bulldogs had that.

The two transfers from Northeastern (Waggoner and Bertram) really have an impact for UMD - two defensive players that know what it's like to play D-1 hockey. Once Vacker is back from injury and McArthur after the break UMD will have a very formative "D" for other teams to contend with. Quite a change from years past in which the Bulldogs relied on a potent offense.

North Dakota seemed totally outskated and outperformed end to end. Though, I will also say the seemed better than last season. I like the way they play and I don't think it will be long before they're near the top of the conference.

Caroline Ouellette is off to a great start and seems to be more of a leader on the ice.

It's too bad UMD is missing some of the key players they thought they'd have - particularly Luther and McArthur.

All in all a very impressive start for the Bulldogs . . . mostly because they did not have any terrible defensive breakdowns. . . the thing that plauged them all season last year.

Go Dogs!!!!

binnyrus lives! Nice to hear from you regarding the 'Dogs. I agree that UND has improved quickly and should be a factor in the coming years. Right now, UMD, Wisconsin, and Minnesota are making it tough for the rest of the conference to bridge the gap. Those three figure to be the WCHA programs most impacted by the Olympics.

I, too, was very impressed with the dogs this weekend. UMD dominated all aspects of the game, including the special teams. This team reminds me of the teams UMD had during it's 3 straight NCAA's, only this year they look to be solid in D. I'm looking forward to watching this team play in the upcoming months. Should be a fun year. Looking forward towards the matchups between the Gophers and Badgers! Go Dogs!

 UMD women will be just fine this year.. Maybe even win the league? I'd like to see them at LEAST take 2/4 from the Yellow Rats this year.
(I dont' remember if html works in here.. it's been since march)

They didn't have Luther for MOST of last year and that helped some of this year's sophomores such AS Lehrke and Jubinville get more ice time then they would have gotten.

ONE other note.. *BEFORE* this season ends I think UMD women needs to retire that number 16, even though someone IS wearing it this year. It's only my opinion probably, but there won't be another one of her.
