I plan to switch profiles to my real name and an e-mail address where you can reach me with questions/comments/ideas for the Game of the Week, but I did want to address a few topics as soon as possible.

First of all, thanks very much to Dave DeRemer and the folks at USCHO for helping make this project a reality. I think everyone who posts here or surfs by the site realizes how hard USCHO works for the game of college hockey and how much its staff put into improving the site year after year. I just brought Dave an idea and without his help and USCHO's permission, it would still be just an idea. I appreciate the opportunity they've given me to try to make this project work. This is a pilot, there are flaws in its design, and I'm sure more issues will come up along the way, but in the end I hope the Game of the Week can make a small contribution to the sport's profile this season and beyond. Now on to answering a few questions before they get asked...

1) What do I need to listen to the live game feeds?

Windows Media Player. You can download the latest version from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com).

2) Is there any subscription fee associated with the Game of the Week?

No. All webcasts are free of charge.

3) How was the schedule put together?

Three primary determinants:

Cost/Location. I have a full-time job in New York City. I am also paying for this project out of pocket. Consequently, there are only certain days I can get to games and only select places I can reach given the work schedule and the budget.

Diversification. Our aim is to provide a compelling, competitive matchup each week while involving a fair number of DI programs over the course of the season. Right now, we have 15 different programs on the inaugural schedule. Hopefully, we can increase that number in future seasons.

Presence of Existing Radio/Internet Coverage. We respect the efforts of stations already covering the sport and hope they continue to augment their women's hockey schedules. Avoiding competition with existing stations/webcasts is impossible over the course of a full season. However, we researched as best we could what coverage was already out there in hopes of not “over-covering” games whenever feasible. This criteria explains why UMD-Minnesota (clearly a tremendous rivalry) does not appear on the schedule this season.

4) Who else will be serving as a guest analyst for the Game of the Week?

We are still in the process of rounding out our rotation of analysts. However, I will say that the pipeline looks very promising right now and I'm pretty confident we will be able to feature a nice array of alums from a number of different programs.

5) Will the guest analyst always be an alum of one of the schools involved in that week's game?

No. Hopefully, that will happen quite a bit, but obviously, the people we have contacted all have lives, jobs, families, etc. so they may not be able to fit a certain game into their existing schedule. The analysts have ties to certain programs, but they are also "generalists" as well.

6) Where should I direct my feedback?

Please send all questions, comments, and suggestions to me at uschobroadcast@yahoo.com. Dave has plenty of things to worry about already and since I will be quarterbacking the operation week to week, I am happy to handle any listener response. The audience is obviously a critical element of the project and your feedback will be essential in improving the Game of the Week.

Brian, I'm very pleased to hear that you've chosen to undertake this ambitious project. Even though I was rarely (if ever) hoping for a Harvard victory, I always enjoyed listening to your WHRB broadcasts. In short, it's good to have you back behind the mic.

I am also paying for this project out of pocket.

With the number of western games (and eastern games a good distance from NYC) on the slate, I'm sure your travel budget alone will be substantial - not to mention production costs, etc. Have you considered asking your (future) listeners for voluntary contributions? I know many are reluctant to pay for what they can otherwise obtain for free, but I think many listeners will see the real value of this project and want to assist in its success.

I would like to send a contribution for this effort. Where and to whom can I send a cheque? :)

As always, fans may access USCHO's game feeds here:
http://www.uscho.com/news/agate.php?item=WGOTW (scroll down to December 11 & 12 and click "Webcast")

Note: if you click on a feed and get a "404 Error Not Found," it likely means we have not started the broadcast yet. Refresh or reclick around 10 minutes prior to faceoff and the feed should come up. If problems persist, call 877-913-9739 and the game's producer should be able to help.

Interviews we have for our broadcasts this weekend:

Minnesota: Laura Halldorson, Jody Horak, Krissy Wendell

Dartmouth: Mark Hudak, Meagan Walton, Tiffany Hagge

We will run Hudak/Halldorson then Walton/Horak during the Game 1, and have Hagge and Wendell during the intermissions for Game 2.

Nadine Muzerall (Minnesota '01) will make an appearance as guest analyst. Nadine was a two-time All-American and Patty Kazmaier nominee. She holds the school's career record for goals (139) and points (235). We also have another guest in the pipeline so stay tuned for details on that.

The coverage and play by play was very good. Since I watched the video (2 periods) I followed their live broadcast yesterday and today watched video but listened to USCHO. For intermissions the interviews were great on USCHO. I noticed the play by play announcer getting the background on players in on the fly. Really it was probably the best coverage I have heard of a women's NCAA (not CBC/pro yet)

In some ways I preferred yesterday ( I listened in the first) without the "colour" commentator.

Interviews for the broadcast this weekend:
Minnesota-Duluth: Shannon Miller, Riitta Schaublin

Goaltending is the theme for the weekend. Both of our player guests are goalies as was our guest analyst, April Stojak (Ohio State '03). April was an original Buckeye and still holds the Ohio State single-season record for wins (18) and shutouts (8), both set in 2000-01 when OSU made its run to the WCHA Finals.

Weather note: There seems to be the potential for some nasty weather in the Columbus area this weekend. We will make every effort to get to the rink, but we apologize to listeners in advance if travel problems prevent us from broadcasting the game as planned.
